I've had a V1 for about 15 years now (technically multiple, since I've sent in for an upgrade a couple of times). So my experience is based over that whole time period - which was before LIDAR was more widely used, before the other detectors caught up, and before Waze existed. My answer is a definite "yes". The directional arrows and bogey counter provide important information, which makes the detector worthy of the price. Waze is very useful, but just like a detector it has its weaknesses. Using both is the safest option.

Other than a Waze type of app there isn't much you can do about a laser speed trap, but there have been times when a stray laser beam set off my V1 before I got to the trap. Otherwise it has warned me of patrol cars waiting in the wings over 1 mile ahead on the interstate, or around blind corners on mountain roads. Having had it for several years the alerts have become second nature, and over time you learn what sound and light combos require your attention and which ones you can dismiss.
Basically what he said. I'll add that even with laser/LIDAR being used more there's still plenty of K/Ka being used, at least around here anyway.
