Overhead interior light...

Our Honda Odyssey has a yellowish orange ambient light that shines down from the front and center of the roof. It's small and relatively hidden and emits a light down on the dash, shifter etc. Anyway, I think the same light would look nice on the inside of our cars - actually maybe some have it now, but mine is an 06 and doesn't.

So, I'd like to add it between the sunglasses holder and the windshield. Has anyone done that? Is it possible?

OK here are the pics...

There are a couple shots of the light and then one of the light hitting my hands. It emits a soft orange light (that would match our G's perfectly) down down on the center console. It seems like something that would be a nice addition to the G, easy to do and not noticeable except inside the vehicle during night driving.

If you wanted to go through the work i am sure it wouldn't be hard to drill a small hole and insert a yellow or blue LED like on the acuras and just tap the power from the lights up there.

My mother's benz has the same feature.

I remember when we bought her the car I went and picked it up at night. I was wondering WTF this single white LED light was shining down towards the shifter and how to shut it off. I eventually figured out what it really was for and how silly it was.

I think those are pathetic "ambient lighting" fixtures.
In our S-Class, there's much better ambient lighting... although I hate the S-Class, the ambient lighting is well done.

My 07 Mazda CX-7 had a mood lighting dealie that was blue. Just a little LED in the ceiling that shone down on the shifter/console area. Very subtle and somewhat useful at night. I liked it. If I had something like it in another car, I'd want it to be switchable. I'm considering replacing my 2 reading lights in the G with LEDs, one white and one blue.

That can be done easily.

Uh - comparing my Honda Odyssey light "fixtures" to your S class is...well, no comparison. I'm sure your S class has many features/fixtures that are nicer than my mini van.

Did I mention, it's a mini van, not a Mercedes?

Semi DIYBOOBIES:

1. Disassemble the LED.

2. Unscrew these two.

3. Disconnect map light power connector.

4. Drill a hole here, put the light in and glue it. I think this 's the best spot. Any suggestion?

5. Tap the LED wires.
