Here is a blurb about the Osram Silverstar line:

Pete, I totally agree with you. The Euro-spec Silverstars are 30% brighter than stock, while the US-Spec Silverstars are 10% brighter. PIAA Superwhite bulbs are something like 10% LESS bright than stock.

Really that much? Hmm I think I may be sold on those osrams. I tried to research the lumen output on other bulbs, but only osram / slyvania had the ***** to list the actual output and not that "equivalence" to 125 / 135 W. I'd just like to see how close the color is to the HID, but if its 90% there good enough for me to gain some extra light. Also I may put them in my old volvo (uses 9003 / H4) if they can be brighter.

I had the MTEC's and the highbeams were useless.. didnt illuminate for shyt at night

bombrush yes, don't outbid me :-P there are 2 auctions haha. I think they may be closer to 3800K less yellow, but brighter so I guess upgraded fogs can help.

Tony any other brands you've tried? PIAA xtreme white would match almost perfectly but less light than the stock fogs.

I had the Sylvania SilverStars and the PIAA Xtreme Whites. The SilverStars did not match the HID's as well as the PIAA's, but they seemed brighter (especially the high beams). The PIAA's match the HID's very nicely, but they are not perfect. I now have PIAA Xtreme Force. They are rated at 4700k, but they look exactly like the Xtreme Whites to me.

well if I want more visible light output (lumens) I should go w/ the Silverstars? The PIAA I've read is less than stock light output, what were your thoughts since you had both?

You have to remember that the fog/highs are auxiliary lighting. The HID’s are what’s doing most of the work. The only difference in brightness I noticed between the SilverStars and the PIAA’s was the high beams. Also, I had Sylvanias, not Osram. Maybe you’ll notice a difference with the brighter Osrams.

Right, well with slight tinting and rain storms here frequently in GA I'd like the most light possible but match the HID's rather close. If the OSRAM's are 80% there but 30-50% brighter than stock that is a good trade off. If it is the same as stock, I'd rather just lose the 10% and go with the PIAA's. Too bad we didn't get projectors, I dunno if I would drop the 1k or so to get retro-HID's.

When changing my fog/highs, color matching the HID's was my first priority although I agree light output is an important consideration. Coming from a Ford with halogen headlights, the HID's were like sunlight for me.

hey if its not so obvious as the yellow halogen vs HID then its all good. I wish I could get color temps & lumens for all the lights, only OSRAM has the lumen output. Suprised PIAA doesn't tell me.

I'm not. They probably don't list the lumens because they're not worth advertising. Even so, I have had good experiences with PIAA so I can't complain.

I agree the bulbs rock, but again 80% close brighter or 100% close and -10 % brightness.
