Put 05-06' Gauge Cluster in my 03'

Hey aorbeta,
Nice! Getting yours for 150 beans less than me. You stink. LOL
Anyways, yes, you are indeed correct (sort of).
The seller on e-bay got back with me and said that it was a mistake that the picture for an 03' Cluster was pictured with the Pigtails.
I do have the cluster that looks like what you have pictured (Pic # 2, 3).
Great work looking into the wiring schema.
The main question for me now is how to wire w/ no pigtails. See the pigtails would have saved a TON of trouble, being able to "TAP" into the bare wire(s).

Ok, thanks for the rolled eyes 2006_G_Coupe....cute.

I had to jump on that auction.
Was too good to pass up.
I've started to take a look at the 03 coupe diagrams and map out the wiring for it. There are a few good things to note. First off, the CAN system that handles most of the data transfer throughout the entire car and to the cluster is functionally identical from 03 to 05.
Also, looks as though they have kept some of the wiring colors the same. But there are some connections that are in the 03 diagrams and not in the 05 and vice-versa. As far as the wiring harness goes, I'm hoping to find a local salvage yard as I don't think a dealer would be able to supply just the connectors. Maybe the entire harness, but I doubt just the connectors.

^ Awesome job man!
If you happen to find a junk yard that has several connectors available, please pick me up the big and little one and I'll pay you back plus some for your troubles...I'll be looking into the junk yard 'scene' as well and let you know if I find some for you...(if you can't find any...)

I called a local salvage yard yesterday. They had none in their inventory and they rarley get any 05+ G35's. There is a network of salvage yards that he looked up in his database. He directed me to a salvage yard in Florida that had a gauge cluster thinking that they might have the wiring harness but they sold the entire wiring harness already. I'll keep looking and I'll try to grab one for you if there are extras.
Hey WhiteonWheat. I've finished mapping out the 03 and 05 wiring diagrams. There are roughly 32-35 connections for the 03 and the 05 and the others are open or unused. The disparity between the two is just an increase in the amount of connections for ground that I found while probing the 05 cluster with my Fluke. There are approximately the same amount of unused slots for both the 03 and 05. I am only unsure about 4 connection conflicts from the two diagrams. The 03 diagrams have driver and passenger door switch and some sort of tail lamp relay as inputs that I don't see on the 05. The 05 diagram shows the positive terminal for illumination that isn't clearly shown on the 03. Shouldn't be long before I hunt these down. I just need to find connectors for the 05 cluster!!!!!
The tail lamp relay input is actually on the 03 cluster and not on the 05 cluster. So it shouldn't have anything to do with the trunk release button on the later model coupes. It's not the end of the world if I can't figure that connection out.
Glad to see that you guys are making progress I have been stuck doing research for my graduate thesis so I have been dedicating all my time to that. Anyways if you guys need me to look at anything shoot me a Pm
^ Smart guy!!!
I've been so slammed with work, I haven't even laid eyes on the cluster for awhile.
Keep it up though Aorbeta, you are our 'saving grace' my friend!

not meaning to be negative, but you know that if you hook up even one wire incorrectly you could fry the cluster, ecm,or god forbid the bcm, which is the heart of the canbus and the nats key system, and you know that you will need a nissan consult in order to initialize the cluster or the can bus will freak out as the parts internal serial number will not be the one that is assigned to the bcm.
remember all things on the can network are smart and know what is in the car ,what options and will not function if you randomly swap parts.on the up side,it actually should be possible as the senders and ecm and bcm are pretty much the same,as for warranty,if you cut up the harness, warranty void on the part and all connected parts ,if nissan/infiniti were to send out a claim team you would be screwed as that is not how it came and it is not plug and play as the 06 projectors are.but if you took your car in for light problems with 06 projectors in an 04 you would be SOL.

If only one gauge cluster is specifically assigned to only work with my ECM and/or BCM and my cluster would need initialization from the dealer, how are people swapping in the Nismo white face gauge clusters???
My warranty is up in less than six months as I have an 03.

is the nismo one a complete cluster or just a silver overlay, like a colored gauge kit.i will double check on the consult on monday but i am pretty sure whenever you swap a can part you must initialize it to the bcm.it is nice to hear that you have a game plan and are not going to just start hacking wires and playing the guessing game,i get to fix that kind of stuff all the time.it is refreshing to know that you have researched and thought this out ,one more person restores my faith in humanity, thanks

Yeah, hacking the original wire harness and rewiring the whole deal from the driver's seat of my coupe would be a major PITA. This way I can solder the entire inline adapter from my workbench.
Are you familiar with how the gauge cluster clocks mileage??? From what I gather the CAN bus delivers tachometer and speedometer information to the cluster. The vehicle speed is a separate TTL level input signal to the cluster. I'm guessing the vehicle speed signal increases in frequency corresponding to vehicle speed. I'm curious if the cluster receives the vehicle speed signal and clocks mileage.
My thought is that the 05 cluster that I purchased has xx,xxx amount of miles and my 03 has 45,000 miles. I want to use my function generator to produce a false vehicle speed signal to the cluster to trick the cluster into thinking it is actually moving and have it clock more mileage on the cluster so it will have the proper 45,000 miles.
Any thoughts?? I guess once I have the 05 cluster in I'll have to take a look at the vehicle speed signal with my o-scope.
