Having some kind of strange electrical issue...Can anyone help?

Having some kind of strange electrical issue...Can anyone help?

Hi all,

I have a 04 g35 sedan rwd, multiple modifications but never had any issues with those.

I replaced the battery and the positive terminal but the car has lost power. Did it to me on the highway, no throttle response in gear (plenty of revs in neutral).

Now, I can get the car started with a jump and it will run but it acts goofy, the instrument panel lights including VDC and SLIP will intermittently flash and dim, and the needles somewhat jump around too. Sometimes as soon as we disconnect the jumper cables it will die, but most of the time it will continue to run but have those issues with the instrument panel and have a slightly odd idle. I can rev it up just fine in park or neutral, but going into gear it has no acceleration.

Im thinking that the electrical issue must be tripping the car into limp mode.

Alternator should be fine, new battery and terminal. Did not see any damage to the fusable link.

Any ideas?

Also, did not have a CEL and do not when it's started, however the ECU may have reset multiple times with changing the battery and messing with the terminals since I was having trouble getting a good tight fit.

Sounds like something isn't fully bolted on electrically.

Check both ends of both battery cables, also check the fusible link holder for corrosion. There is an engine bonding jumper that connects to the right side of the timing chain cover and lands on the chassis directly below the coolant reservoir. Remove the single 10mm bolt on the reservoir and lift straight up, don't need to disconnect the hose .

The engine ground is located at the top center of the timing chain cover.

The ECM master ground is located behind the glovebox/center console.

The BCM ground is located behind the lower trim for the dash.

Brush everything with a wire brush toake sure there is no corrosion. Apply a tiny bit of electrical anti-oxidation grease. Bolt it back together.

Sounds like your alternator might be goin bad or you have a bad connection somewhere.

Thanks for the replies.

It ended up being that my belt was getting too worn and wasn't able to properly turn the alternator, so I was running on battery. Replaced the belt, and everything is doing good now!
