My weekend at Harris Hill Road (not dialup friendly)

My weekend at Harris Hill Road (not dialup friendly)
So, I got an invitation to the not yet open, but seeking members Harris Hill Road racetrack in San Marcus, TX.
First off, thanks for the invitation! You know who you are!
Next off, what a great track. It's the right balance of fun / technical although, being a short track meant there was no place to really wind things out. I pretty much ran the track in 3rd / 4th gear most of the time, more 3rd than 4th. Once the amenities are complete this track's going to be awesome, and only 30 minutes from Austin! Woohoo! Much better than MSR or TWS. Morning dawned cold and clear, but by the time we got to the track (11am) temp was in the mid/upper 50s. In short, glorious weather!
Anyway, here's the official track map:
Here's some the cars for a few of us track newbies (to this track) lined up while we're off getting the safety lecture:
And some of the founding owner's cars, and yes, he's changing to track tires:
A few shots of the track so you can see the elevation / camber:
Anyway, skipping all the parade / warm-up lap stuff, here's a few action shots. We still weren't allowed to pass at this point:
Later in the day, when we were allowed to pass... I got a chance to have some fun with my friend in the 08 Z06.
Note, I've been riding the bumper of the Z06 in the corners quite abit...
In between these pics is the last corner of the track, right by pit-in.
Pay attention now...
Anyway, I held the Z06 off (remember, no real straights on this track!) for another lap until, oopsie, Pushed a little too hard into that off-camber decreasing radius turn...
You can see the tiny puff of dust where my driver's side rear went for an OTE. Fortunately wasn't a major thing, unfortunately the proctor called me off for a visit...
Anyway, we had a blast. If you want to see all the pics, they are here for the time being.
Now to find the money for a membership.

Down at the bottom is the list of some of the road course tracks in California. For some reason it skips Leguna Seca (the only CA track I've ever been too).

The event went great about 2 weeks ago and the following people from ZSport showed up. Ron Titus, Nick (Blue Z), Blaine and myself. Ed with a Silverstone was there as well. I have been to MSR a few times in Cresson, TX and was thrilled to check this track out!
Is it more fun than MSR? Hmmmm Yes and no. MSR is longer, has tighter and higher speed turns, but Harris Hill has off-angle turns, which really add some fun.
The track is great. And the owner is definitely a nice person to talk too. We got to drive 1-2 slow laps, then it definitely picked up the pace enough to push your tires to their limits. We were following one of the guys in a A3, and then Ed in front, me behind him, and Blaine in his RX7 behind me. Ron got caught in the back of the pack behind a few slower cars. We left everyone else behind and actually got the rear of the pack where the Porsches were. We definitely pushed the cars hard on this course by the final laps and it is definitely a fun course. I got up to about 100 mph on the final lap on one straight. The NISMO Z could have gone much much faster as Ed said I was on his tail the whole time. Blaine lost it in one turn in his RX7. He got into boost too much and the tail got loose, and he drifted a bit but got it back. He left his mark.
Now to the info about having Zsport and the Austin Z club getting club days. The owner said this is a Private track, and once the membership is filled the gate is locked. He said while the membership is filling up, he will consider having a few club days, so if you guys want one, we need to schedule it with the owner as soon as possible once they open. Once the membership fills though he will no longer allow club events out there. He did mention on a rare occasion he might close the track down for a weekend if we can get more than 4-5 clubs to come, and have like 100 cars~. But he said this takes away from his memberships and won't do it at all hardly. He also mentioned that during the week there is a better chance of allowing this but not on the weekend.
So don't expect them to let the clubs come like MSR or TWS do. Sadly this will hurt him but it is his choice.
Membership prices are as follows:
$900 first time membership fee Life
$1500 down (refundable but only for insurance reasons must be given)
$90 a month after that (no matter if you go or don't)
$50-100 a event for half a day of runs each time you go.
So membership is a bit high and definitely won't be doing it myself. The $1500 is for accident insurance. Let's say you hit someone out there on the track, they give the owner $1500 and you walk away and owe another $1500 again to the track owner. If you discontinue your membership, you get your $1500 back. But you can definitely see the whole track 100% from the hill they are putting the building on.
Here are some pictures.
