Wink Buying a G35 Coupe

Hey guys, I'm new here. My name is Todd, and I'm going to look at a 2005 G35 6MT coupe in black this weekend. It has the sport package with the brembos and has 71,xxx miles with no accidents and a clean title. Before I make the deal, I thought I'd go to the source and get as much knowledge as possible. I had a 2004 350z previously, so I'm pretty familiar with Nissan and the likes.

I'm here to ask you all if there is anything I need to look out for or check on the car before I buy it. Obviously the regular things like oil, rust, etc.. I'm concerned with the types of things that you all may know from experience about the car by owning one yourselves. Any input or information is greatly appreciated.

I'm going to test drive a similar 2006 G35 6MT coupe at a local dealer tomorrow.

Also, how is the aftermarket for these vehicles? The car I want is bone stock, so I will definitely be making some vast and timely modifications.

The aftermarket is huge, there are WAY too many options available from show to go. Check out the vendor section here and the sticky threads on must-have mods. Be sure and ask any questions you have because there is a lot of misinformation as well so things can get a little confusing at times.

05's didn't come with Brembo's...if it has them, someone put them there...

And aftermarket is huge, just look through all the different forums here

Oh ok I didn't know that. Aftermarket is a huge deal to me.. I can't wait to get started.

I'm pretty sure it's got brembos so I guess the guy swapped them in. Or maybe he just painted the calipers orange lol

Edit: just checked, and I got an 04 that I was also looking at (also black) mixed up with the 05. The 04 does have brembos but the 05 doesn't. Is there a reason that Infiniti didn't put the brembos on the 05 sport package?

I got distracted at carmax just looking around and test drove a 2010 Mazda speed3. Not going to lie, I was thoroughly impressed with it. It's between the G35 and the MS3 for me now.

The way I see it: the MS3 has the upper hand in gas mileage, the tech package (push to start, Bluetooth, nav, factory sub), room, and it's turboed.. The G coupe is probably more reliable, has a sunroof, leather and heated seats, and looks better. I really don't know what I'm going to do at this point.

I'm confused if you are getting and 04 or an 05 G. The 05 G has a revup motor, which is infamous for oil consumption issues. The 04 motor doesn't have many issues at all (that I know about anyways). I have an 03 with 90k miles on it, and havent had a drivetrain issue yet. I'm all for the G, and I am not a huge fan of the mazda's but that is solely my personal opinio (besides the 05 motor fact )
