2005 G35x Gauge Cluster Issues
2005 G35x Gauge Cluster Issues
Hello, this is my first post here.
I have a few issues with my car which I think lead back to the gauge cluster. I’m getting P0462 for the fuel level sensor which I replaced but that’s didn’t fix the issue. The trip on my odometer displays as zeros except for a split second when I turn the car on where it displays what seems to be an accurate value, and it won’t toggle between A and B. The car wouldn’t go in to manual mode the other day but that is now working again. I noticed the “set” light only comes on sometimes when using cruise control despite always functioning properly. The head unit also don’t work, the fuse blows. However, that may be a separate issue.
I tried to put the cluster into self-diagnostic mode by holding the trip button in while I turned it on then pressing 3 times within 7 seconds but that didn’t seem to work.
I’ve read through some forums and seen that many of these issue lead back to the gauge cluster which apparently goes bad frequently. I’ve seen that I can send my cluster in for repair but I’d rather do it myself if possible. I’ve seen mention of faulty solder on resistors and didn’t know if that was all I need to do.
I haven’t tried to diagnose the head unit but if anyone has any insight into that I’d appreciate advice there as well.
Thanks in advance, hopefully I didn’t miss a forum that covers this already.

P0462 can be either the main or secondary float level sensor, check both sides of the gas tank. One should read 3-40 ohms, the other should read 3-80 ohms. It's probably the side you didn't replace.
To amill,
Have you been able to fix the issue? I have some of the same issues that you described: cluster shows D when I put shifter into manual mode, fuel gauge doesn't go lower than 3/4 of full even though the tank is near empty, with cruise control ON and set to a speed the set light doesn't stay lit all the time, and yesterday, I got the service engine soon light with fault code P0642.

In re to cleric670, sorry that was a typo P0462 is what I got.
Happy to report that my fuel gauge has been fixed as well as the SES light with code P0462!
