G35 in sad shape
G35 in sad shape
I definitely need some help with this thing because I'm usually elbows deep in a Chevy 350 and know little about Nissan engines. 2007 G35, 215k miles. was making a 3 hr drive home from another city when i heard a clicking sound coming from the engine bay. pulled over and found very little oil on the dipstick. added 2 quarts. about 50 miles later it was still clicking but not as loud, and the engine temp started creeping up. As soon as i noticed it i started to pull over, but the engine shut off before i could get off the lanes. it overheated massively while shut off, and i couldn't restart when it cooled down. had it towed home, recharged the battery, and managed to get it to crank but it's making a horrible screeching noise like one of the cylinders is too big for its bore.
is this engine boned, or can it be fixed? i bought it used and the previous owner had just done an oil change before selling it to me. the only thing it needed was an upstream o2 sensor which i have not yet replaced.

You could borrow/rent a tester and do a compression test and it would probably tell you one or more of the holes is low. So you'd have to take it apart to figure out what's wrong and then you'll really see what's up. And all that kind of work costs so much money it's probably not worth it. Around here, cheaper to find a used engine and swap than try and fix something with serious damage.
