I was told that it will go down only when you turn 30. And every 3 years your ranking will go up, reducing your insurance rate. That's what I was told my a few agents.

You can take a defensive driver's course. For $60-70, it can deduct 2 points and reduce your premiums by 5% in NJ and 10% in NY for three years. From what I read on this forum, people are paying easily $2000 a year in insurance. Can get your money back in a year. I believe VIN etching is also applicable for yet another discount in NY, but not sure about NJ. http://www.njlaws.com/defensive_driving_course.htm

the 5% off would not be off total premium, just liability or comprehensive. same thing with the window etching. i think both discounts apply to comprehensive.

i am 41 divorced and this is not my primary driver. i pay 1007 per year in nj.

I waited for a few years myself and no such luck, although I do have a couple of speeding tickets on my record. I pay about $3,800/year on my Max currently. I can't wait to see how much I'll get raped when I get the G.

Re: Whats the deal with insurance decreases in NJ ?

As I said before, I asked my insurance agent specifically this question and they said it would go down when you turn 30, and every 3 years of continuous insurance coverage. Nothing specific when you turn 25.

Re: Whats the deal with insurance decreases in NJ ?

I live in NY and use an address for NJ cuz it was much cheaper that here. I've been waiting for years, I'm 28 now and still it's high. I also have my bro's (he's 19) '01 BMW 330i in my name and insurance and it's about $6,000/year with $1,000 deductible on mine and $500 on his.

Raped isn't the word. I'm not even getting lubed on the way in.

The only way to fix this is to get get married, have children and move out to my girl's place in west bubaF%&K, Suffolk co. LI (she pays $1,600/year on an '01 Acura CL w/ one ticket), but guess what, that's gonna cost me more money. Oh well, what are ya gonna do?

Check back in a few years, I'm gonna try and be a good boy when I get my new G (yeah, let's see that happen) and try not to get anymore speeding tickets. Supposedly I would have paid $1,800/year for my Max on a clean record.

Re: Whats the deal with insurance decreases in NJ ?

rule of thumb, nj is generally cheaper than nyc, but not nys.

best in nj is New Jersey Manufacturers. great svc, great rates. no increases for tix or accidents. i repeat. no increases for tix or accidents.

to get NJM
1. 23 or older
2. no tix or at fault accidents in past 3 years
3. have to work for a company that is part of NJBIA (nj bus and institute association).

many co's in nj belong to them and very easy for a company to join. not expensive. have other benefits too.

also, not only do they have the lowest rates, they currently rebate 10% of your premium at year end (by default, they apply to renewal. but is you cancel, you get cash). they used to give 20%, but florio's rules screwed us/them.
