For the guys in the LI/NYC area, how do you clean the underbody of your car? I don't want to go to a regular car wash as I know I'll come out with scratched rims, missing sideview mirror, etc.

Honestly car washes are not that bad, i have been going to one since like the begginning of the summer because of the construction at my house and no water lines for the hose outside, they have not scratched my rim once considering i drive it in and the track are WIDE even with my new wheels, the owner sometimes takes my car in because he has a corvette and knows how to go in with his wide wheels and tires. It comes out spotless here on Jericho at 5 Star carwash!! Underbody and everything and after 6pm $6 car wash =)

Jericho runs from queens to the hamptons. Can you be more specific? You can always park it on the lawn and turn the sprinkler on.

I think the main issue with those automatic car washes is that the bristles they use to wipe down the car can cause swirl marks and scrap dirt across your car... the scratched rims might be a little less frequent but still a chance you're taking every time you go through those things...

i think most good detailing places have a good underbody wash... i'm pretty picky with my stuff so i'd rather do everything myself if i can...

 

Jericho TPK, East norhtport where i live!! And bristles?? They use like foam and terry cloath things inside the carwash, no bristles and lawn haha, i have wooded area around me no grass!!

is that the one where 454 meets jericho? i always used to see hot cars in there...so they're either a good car wash or they just want to pay only $6. i work right near east northport in greenlawn...right on pulaski

You could just buy one of the gutter cleaning tools from target/home dumpo and attach it to your hose. Stick it under the car and fire away.

 

pezzonovante yea your right there, i work across the street indirectly but a few stores down at The Eye Dept... That's also E.Northport and i know where you are! They are great, no complaints at all and there are always sick cars coming in and out, they also are in ownership or something with habberstad BMW, they have all new and used bimmers in the back and thats where they all get washed, must be good if the dealer uses them =)

ive always had bad luck with auto car washes. if you have wide tires, i wouldnt suggest using one. i used to have a 3000gt, and twice the car went off the track. then i had a corvette, and that went off the track too. its friggin terrifying seeing that happen to your car. im scarred for life. i will never use one again.
