URGENT: 2nd speeding ticket - advice needed...lawyers?

Hey guys,

So.. a while ago, I got my 2nd speeding ticket for 85mph (first was for 80 - I just paid that). I cant take traffic school cuz I took that for another ticket (one way+not coming to a full stop at a stop sign or some **** like that)

The way I see it I have several options: 1) pay the ticket ($290) and be done with it, 2) get a lawyer ($499) to go to court both in writing and in person if they need to, they say they win 90% of their cases... 3) is there such a thing as "2 day traffic school"? would THAT show up on insurance and things?

If I choose to go for option 2... anyone know any lawyers that WONT charge $500?? In florida, traffic lawyers are $75 and you get a refund if you dont win...

My court date is this time next week so I'd appreciate any suggestions ASAP!

I know I know, I got the ticket a day before I left the country for Europe, and I basically just got back..

I live in Palo Alto; I'm a student at Stanford.

Suggestions.....

1) Take it like a man--pay the ticket.

2) Slow down so you don't get a 3rd....

Good luck....

What area was the ticket cited in?

And really, you should try to avoid more tickets, just slow down.

San Mateo. And yeah I know.. but I was driving fast for a reason, I wasn't just joyriding..

I had to get to SF in 35mins to pick up my German visa, I had just finished a final exam at 1120 and embassy closed at 12.. Because of being pulled over I obviously didn't make it in time, went back the next day right before another one of my finals, barely made it back in time..

I'm a little confused. You said you just got your second speeding ticket, but then you mentioned something about not stopping at a stop sign. So is that 3 moving violations now? What did you already go to traffic school for and when? This is the way the judges in Santa Clara County explain it: If you have already attended traffic school within the last 18 months, you might be able to attend level 2 traffic school. It's two days and cannot be done online. Attendance is mandatory. The ticket will show up on your record but there will be no point count. It will count as a prior if you receive a future citation and effects fine amounts. Your insurance company may raise your rates because of this ticket. In my opinion, go to court, plead guilty, and ask for level two traffic school. Don't waste your money on a lawyer. The lawyer will cost more than the fine amount. If you have an attorney on retainer, like most commercial drivers do, it's a different story. Anyhow, you can't just show up with a lawyer ready to argue your case. There is a specific day of the week and time set up for attorney calender cases. Your court date is probably your arraignment anyhow, no lawyer needed. Good luck and for God's sake slow down.
