Quote: Rob, the PS3 is still one of the best Blu-ray players you can get. Plus they've just announced support for their Blu-ray Live feature which will let you download extra and updated movie content for each movie that supports that.

I think your best bet is to wait a little longer and see what Sony does with future PS3 consoles. The prices will come down a little more over the summer, I'm sure. Plus Sony will always update the PS3 firmware making it one of the best HD players out there.
But for people with standalone Blu Ray players, won't there be a firmware update CD to upgrade to v2.2?

Thanks for the info, Rudy. I suppose I can wait it out.

My only regret about the PS3 is that it's not backwards compatible. So, if I wanna play all my PS2 games, I'll have disconnect the PS3 and hook up the PS2 again.

No, my TV is 1080i. Sounds like I better off just waiting, huh?

Upconvert means that it'll play your current non-hd DVDs NEAR hd quality. I completely forgot what resolution it'll convert to, it won't be HD/Blu Ray quality but a higher resolution than your standard DVD player.

If your player has an ethernet port then you should be able to update the firmware. I don't know if you can update the firmware from a disc. I've never heard of doing it that way.

That was the problem with the very first Blu-ray players, they didn't have a way to connect to the internet. HD-DVD players, on the other hand, always had ethernet ports.

I'm waiting it out to get a player. I have an Xbox so I won't be getting the PS3.

Everything blu-ray is just too expensive for me right now.

I just bought a 1080p LCD TV but I'm waiting on the Blu-Ray player. Sony is coming out with a player in December that I'm waiting on. I don't have the specs at hand right now, I'll post them later.

Meanwhile, I have a stack of Blu-Ray DVD's and nothing to play them on, LOL.
