Just surveying the scene, especially the East/South Bay (San Jose to Oakland) and Peninsula (Palo Alto to Brisbane) regions before I get <35% up front

Your experiences appreciated!

You should be fine with 35. I have 5% now and I have driven past 2 sjpd cars that have been right next to me and didnt pull me over but im just lucky right now.

But on my old car I have had been pulled over 3 times with 35% on the front and just rolled down the windows. They didnt mention it even though Im sure they had seen it

40% on fronts. No hassles about those yet, but they're still illegal.

20% up front about 2 years ago. Pulled over a minute after I left for work. I have not tinted ever since.

20% all the way around except no tint on the windshield. Had it done for over a year, been pulled over once in Livermore. Cop let me go with just a warning though.

20% all around and yes I've been ticketed once for it. The tint shop I went to was willing to remove the side window tint and then reinstall for a discount after I got the ticket signed off.. but it just wasn't worth the hassle. I just paid the ticket.

I had 35% tint and heard about people getting pulled over, next day I got caught and took it off myself, never tinted the fronts again.

limit is 70% light on the front 2 windows aka ones that arent behind your head. ones behind your head are whatever you want so you can have the back ones limo tinted (5%) on the back and its perfectly legal.

btw 70% is pretty much just what your windows are stock so you pretty much stay legal and dont tint or decide on what level of illegality you want to tint to

That's not correct. I'm pretty sure CA law says you cannot have any tint at all on your front windows.
