I'm heading up to SF next week....what are some things to do anyone can recommend?

I've been to the Bay area many times. It's going to be just me, and the gf. We really don't want to do the whole touristy things such as: Golden Gate, Pier 39, Fishermans Wharf, Lombard Street, Chinatown, etc.

We'll be flying in on Wednesday, March 25, and flying back to So Cal on Saturday, March 28. So we won't have a car. I do have some friends that we will be meeting up for dinner/drinks. But during the day I just want to get a feel of what other things you guys could recommend.

We'll be staying at the Westin, which I believe is in Union Square. Here's one place that we definitely want to check out: California Academy of Sciences. (http://www.calacademy.org/) Since we won't have a car, and don't really plan on getting a rental. We want to do things that are within walking or taxi/bus distance from our hotel.

Here are some places that we looked up on Yelp as far as food goes. Have any of you guys been/tried some of these places? Any other recommendations would be great as well.

Park Chow
Dottie's True Blue Cafe
Mama's
Art's Cafe
Universal Cafe
Ike's Place

My gf's a HUGE breakfast fan.

Ice Cream: Bi-Rite Creamery

Dinner
Tommaso Ritorante
Little Star Pizza

Bar Crudo

Gary Danko - Not 100% sure about this place yet.

We're probably wanting to enjoy more food/things to do during the day then anything else. TIA!!

Academy of science is great, but get there early enough to catch a planetarium show cuz it fills up. Across the street is the De Young museum which was just renovated also and is great! Not sure of what else you might like, would have to hear some interests from you. Park chow is AWESOME!!! I go there all the time for breakfast/lunch/dinner, and am never disappointed. If you want an awesome, but somewhat pricey dinner, I can recommend Espetus or Boboquivari, both of which might need reservations. Bobo's is pretty pricey, but well worth the money! Depending on the weather you could head over to cliffhouse for dinner, or head out to alcatraz which is kinda cool.

^^^Thanks for the feedback. I'll definitely look into some of those. I guess we both want to do more of what the locals do, versus tourist. Any other recommendations that are within walking/taxi/bus drive away from union square. We really don't have a preference, since both of us have been to SF many times.

Lol, IMHO locals stay out of downtown unless they're working, shopping, or clubbing Take the gf shopping in the HUGE mall (SF Shopping Center), but be careful because it might take a chunk out of your modding fund lol. Now that you got me thinking, I don't know what locals do in SF anybody else with input? If anything, try to catch a show or something since that's nearby in downtown, other than that i'm clueless lol

Yea same here. Locals in Socal really don't go to downtown LA. Then again, there isn't much in downtown LA.

BTW, when did Hyori and Alba meet?

Too bad I don't have much to offer in terms of SF advice, I usually just stay in the East Bay or Japantown in SF.

The Pork Store in Haight Ashbury... one of my favorite breakfast spots... http://www.yelp.com/biz/pork-store-cafe-san-francisco
Just sucks that the place is so small... there's usually a long line waiting for tables every morning...
