Lake Tahoe trip

Is it safe to drive to Lake Tahoe for snowboarding while it is snowing in snow tires and chains?

I would like to visit some of the mountains in squaw valley, alpine meadows, heavenly... etc

I've spun out in my all season bridgestones while it was very lightly snowing so I'm not very confident in the G. I'm also considering trading it for STI or EVO.

But if I can get to the mountains with some blizzaks I might consider keeping her for couple more years.

I saw some Gs and S2ks last week when I was there. So I think it can be done but you just have to drive it very carefully.

I stayed mostly in Reno but went to North Lake Tahoe for scenic drive/snow time. Saw a few Gs, S2ks, and BMW 6 series at the hotel I stayed in (Summit at Grand Sierra) and going up to Tahoe. Just make sure you check the weather condition before you go. Light snow should be fine but when you get heavy snow, dont even bother bringing the G....

You should be fine depending on your tire setup. I used chains 2 years ago and did okay. The snow was coming down on the way to S. Lake Tahoe and only had issues at the last twisting climb before you see the lake. I was going no more than 10mph on that incline. The drive back was free of snow fall so there were no problems there.

Here is my post on that trip:

thanks evosmudge for the descriptive details on your trip.

I think I'm going to trade my car for AWD/4WD before I attempt a trip out there. I am not trying to get into an accident especially since I need this for Daily driver

Rent something for the trip? I wouldn't put my DD on the line like that.
I know I can handle my car but I'm paranoid of other drivers.
