Tint in Bay Area

I live here in the Bay Area I usually am driving between Redwood City and Sunnyvale, I have a black G35 Coupe and wanted to get the windows tinted. I believe the law is that you cannot have less than 70% in the front. What amount of tint is the most that you can do that cops wouldnt be stopping you for? Becuase I dont want to have to be going through getting fix it tickets and having to take it off. SO what do you guys believe is a safe tint and do you know any good places in the area?

The safe way? is NOT tint them at all , its all depends on the cop's, they can always pull you over for front windwo tint, just depends on how that cop feel that day both my car have 50% on front windows and 20% on the back, as long there is some contrast you "should" be ok.

on some higher quality films(expensiver) they offer higer heat and ray reductions than their counterpart(50% compare to 50%), so you can go lighter shade of color and have same reduction rates, something to check out.

You cannot have any tint on the front windows. I have 50% on the fronts and I got pulled over by the CHP.

what was your ticket like? a friend of mine had the g35 coupe for a while and kept saying it was a cop magnet. maybe having a sedan will make a difference? i'm getting my car tinted in two weeks, probably 35% all the way around (it's a black on black so i don't think it needs to get much darker).

I didn't say I got a ticket, only that I got pulled over.

But it would have been just a fix-it ticket. Getting the tint removed is a PIA though.

Thirty five percent in the front will definitely get you pulled over eventually. I wouldn't go darker than 50% in the front.

Over the weekend I got 35% all_the_way_around on my new G35 @ Omega Tintwerks here in East Bay...I was going to go 20% but decided to stick with the lighter tint.

IMO the type of car also dictates how the cops will act towards tint, I have fairly dark tint on my Lex LS400 (20%ish) but never have problems with cops (knock on wood) b/c the pearl white car is pretty invisible to them. I've been driving the Lex here in NorCal for 3+ years and haven't had any cop problems.

I don't know about the rest of you, but I can't remember the last time I saw a big S-Class MB or BMW 745i with dark windows pulled over for anything. I'm not saying that cops don't stop the big luxury cars, but I'd be willing to bet that cops mess with them a whole lot less than the lowered Integra/Civic crowd

OTOH, I got nailed in my previous 'Stang by a Campbell cop once, that car also had 20% tint, maybe a bit darker. Cop was simply bored and wanted to write me up.

The G35 falls somewhere in between a big Lexus and a sport Mustang. We'll see how it pans out for me...

Hey Skeleton_Cru, think I should start offering ride-a-longs to members to show them what it's like on the "other side?"

I think that's a start. Hell I could benefit from a ride-a-long too!
