Removed Governor?

Has anyone taken the governor off our G's? I heard that just getting a new ECU solves the problem but $900 over $0 doesn't sound like a good option at the moment, since I'm busy with little bolt-on's at the moment.

I kinda think our cars aren't governed, or at least the limit is over 150

In stock form, it's electronicly limited to 150 or 155mph through the ECU. When you get the car up to that speed, fuel will be shut off. (Not as in kill your engine completely, but it'll feel like you are bouncing off your rev limiter.) If you get the Technosquare ECU reflash, they will remove your "top speed limiter."

I guess that begs to ask the question, do you really plan on going past 150? (Hopefully on a track!)

nah i dont like tracks, not too exciting, i freeway race sometimes and used to drag it on the streets during the nights and all that.

do the 6MT coupes have rev limiters? so you can't potentially blow your engine from over-rev?

Yeah 150mph is fast enough I think... and also take it to the track if you will be going that fast... I highly doubt it would be worth it to kill someone, yourself or lose your license/go to jail for having a thrill... go pay some $$ and do it legally!

I don't say I don't speed but the fastest i've taken my G on the road is near 100mph and I immediately slowed down, I normally keep it 60-62mph in the 60 zones.... also imagine what will happen to your insurance if you get caught! Police radio signals travel faster then your car so don't think you can outrun the cops!

If we did that, then there would be no government. Please stay away from me and anyone else who doesn't want to endanger their lives when you're attempting to reach that 150mph limit.

Put that suit on bro, cuz you're gonna get flamed whether you want it or not from this comment.

ok that's fine, but like i said, i am not sitting here scrutinizing you about the fact that you like to drive the speed limit and abide by all laws, etc. now am i? so respect me and my opinion and leave it at that, i'm not killing anyone and i'm not sitting here saying i go 150 all day long, i simply asked a question about the governor.

Problem being your consequences could kill or maim a perfectly innocent person, damage property, etc. What margin for error do you really have at those speeds? Are you that good a driver? Take it to the track.

and fine, since you are all whining, we can start a debate...

1) i never said i have gone that fast in my car
2) i never said i plan to go that fast in my car
3) my intentions were to simply have the mod and know my car doesn't have a governor
4) i dont know of any tack that has 20 miles of open road you can top your car out on

Yeah. I guess I assumed you were going to try a topspeed run. But your comment of "let's just all do what we want to do as long as we know the consequences" is a very ignorant one, and that's what got me. I know what the consequences of pointing a gun at your head and pulling the trigger are. It means your death and my conviction and serving a life term sentance and possible death penalty with no parole. Does that mean I should still do it? Of course not.

So... I apologize for accusing you of doing something or intending to do something dangerous, but you really should watch what you say.

To your orginal question, I think the governor is embedded in the ecu. You'd have to get it reprogrammed to eliminate the governor.
