What brought you to buy a G?

As I was writing up the other thread concerning the 300ZX, I remembered how that car changed me from an all American Hot rod guy to an import lover. The fit and finish, combined with the looks and power drove me to change sides. First it was the 300ZX then whent he 3000gt VR4 spyder came out I was done.

Fast forward 10 years and after a long 223 days in combat in Iraq in 2004 preforming Convoy Security as a Browning M2 50 Cal Operator and trainer in the back of a 5 ton Gun truck. Time magazine refered to as "the most dangerous job in the world in 2004." I am home, driving my 1990 Cavalier Z24 I bought new (still in fantastic shape! btw) I started looking. First I knew I wanted a RWD V6 or V8 powerplant but looks had to be the #1 seeing how I am an artist full time.

I was hooked on the 350Z, came home and started looking at them. I loved the looks and power, but the interior left me wanting more. After all, it is where I will be sitting for the next 15+ years ( I keep my cars a very long time). I also needed more because I was looking to have a family soon so I needed something with a back seat.

I had been following how the G35 coupe 6MT had been keeping pace or beating out handling and preformance depending on what magazine you read. I also like the pics of the interior. But what I hated was the exterior looks in magazines or on paper. Knowing it had a back seat, I went to the dealership and took a look.

Once I pulled onto the lot, the G35 was not bad in person. In fact, it was 10x more eye pleasing (at least to this artist who first wanted to be a car designer). The angles are important. Most Manufacturers get it right from the front, rear or side. Rarely do they ever get the proper proportions right from the 3/4 view or looking at two sides at once like the front and drivers side. It was at this moment of artist appreciation that I walked right into the dealership and ordered my car. Dropped a large down payment and checked off the options as I saw fit for my taste.

In the end, I recieved the first ordered, delivered and purchased 2005 G35 coupe 6MT in Ohio. I waited almost 5 months for it from the time I ordered it in 2004! But it was worth the wait. Even moreso now after I finally started the modifcation process. And what an addicting bug it is!!!

So what brought you to buy your G35?

Imports own American cars!!!!
(haha calm down everyone

When the G35 coupe came out in 2003, I just fell in love with it's looks, performance, and that sexy to die for stock exhaust note. I was a junior in high school in 03 and the G35 just came out so yea I couldn't afford it lol, it was like $35,---+. But when my friend got a brand new G35 damn when I rode in his G I didn't want to get out of his car. It was just a sexybeast(no homo) .I knew one day I will buy a G35!! Well yea fast foward to july 31 st ,07 , 2 days b4 my 21 st bday, I've been looking at 350z's and of course the G35. So after searching I found a 2004 G35 coupe with 25,000 miles on the clock. So I told my parents that this is the car I want for my birthday. They said ok and gave me $1500 for a down payment on the G(I also gave $1500 of my money for the downpayment) so my mom and I went to go sign the papers and I finally had a G35 that I always wanted when it came out! My G still puts a smile on my face everytime I drive it

Well when I bought my G it was the perfect combo of luxury and sport I wanted for a daily driver. The only reason I am selling it is because I was to impatient and settled on an auto and now that its not my daily driver I want to get back into a muscle car

Yeah like "O Hella OEM" mentioned, when I first saw it in 2003 and heard it's exhaust... I knew i had to get one myself. I remember my ex gf pointing out that car to me when I went to visit her at her college and that's the first time i noticed them. Later on when i finally turned 18 in 2004, i knew i couldn't afford a G and obviously, I also liked the Honda scene. I bought an accord then an integra and back to another accord... finally I realize that those cars were just toys and wasn't happy about them because i would keep thinking of switching to different car, etc . I stepped it up and bought myself a 2005 G35 coupe 6MT. There were other cars out there that i wanted like an s2k, STI, Evo, etc but i figure i'd just go with the car that i've always wanted since it first came out. Although my car is all stock, i still love it... reason i randomly decided to step it up and buy the G was to drive MT again and to get out of the modding scene but there are times i do wanna mod it!

I had been a fan of the import/tuner scene for a while in my previous car (a ford probe) Dont laugh, I had a lot of work done to it. (Megasquirt n spark, big brake kit, Nitrous, ect.) Long story short, my baby was totaled by someone that found it more important to light his cigarette than avoiding parking in my trunk. I was forced into finding something quick and cheap with my insurance money and funds I could gather from parting out the car. I wound up with a Ford Explorer...(now my winter beater)

I had the explorer for about a year and tried to cure my need for speed by purchasing a 600rr, also thinking that it may help fix the mod bug....It didn't...

And so started my search. I knew that from my experience with the probe I wanted something with solid aftermarket support and was a strong platform to start. I knew I wanted 4 things: 2 doors, rear wheel drive, Manual tranny, and of course good looks. That left me with a few options, the rx-8 (lacked the potential I wanted) 350z and s2000 (no back seat) a mustang or camaro (bleh) and the cousin, The G35 Coupe.

When the VQ35 motors debuted in their respective platforms I did everything I could to drop the windows and catch a glimpse of the sexy exhaust note. I still think the backside of the G is one of the best looking out there....After lurking the forums here, and at the other place (are they even still around?) and seeing what people were doing with their cars I had decided that the G35 was for me.

Those are good stories. I know I first started looking at my future toys in magazines (window shopping in iraq as I referred to it) while deployed. I didnt know anything about the exhaust note until I happen to hear on take on one day...
I have been happy with my purchase everyday, even the last month as it sits in the shop waiting for my turbo to get rebuilt! Man, I cant wait for it to get back...my need for speed is growing!

Previous VQ Owner (95 Maxima) so I loved the engine. I was cross-shopping the G35, 05 Legacy GT, and 04+ TL for a while, looking for a manual version of any of those. When the Maxima started sputtering, it really quickened my search and the 6MT G35 was the best deal I could get that weekend. The rest is history.

In 2003 when I was still a freshman, there was a rich douchbag that drives one of them. I saw the G35 first time in my life at the shcool parking lot, I was amazed and hooked. Over the next 3-4 years I saved up every single penny that I could possibly squeeze out while working as a Vons clerk, restaurants buss boy eventually waiter, tutors, and secretary.. Finally in 2007 when I turn 18, I drop down all the money I've saved since I was probably a little younger than 1st grade (in tears) and I drove home my first and ever dream car, a 2003 G35 AT. Eventually I realize it was a big mistake by not taking the 6MT, after a little bit of discussion I purchased another one (traded my old one in), lost a little money but got the perfect car that I wanted. 2003 black on black fully loaded with Navi and 6MT. Until now I've thought about selling my car many times, but in the end I still hold back because this was literally my dream car when I was growing up. Still til now, I still get excited waking up in the morning knowing that I drive a G35

I can't even remember when I first started liking the G. I always like the Z and growing up the 3000gt was my dream car. When I was actually in a position to be able to buy I started looking for the perfect fit for me. I liked that the G had Z performance yet in a more refined package. I needed something that was professional yet would be something I would love every time I got into it. The more I looked at the G the more I fell in love with it. It took me a year to pull the trigger but I love my car! I too wish that it was MT, but I am still happy with the AT. That being said, one of the best perks of owning a G is being apart of a great club.

Pretty much.. I am just following my fathers footsteps.. He had a 1980 280zx Second generation (S130). He had a red one too lol.. That is just the starts of it.

This was around 2003 when i didnt start my company yet so I was still going to school and broke working part time at Meijer stocking shelves at the grocery department. I was parked outside Best Buy waiting for a buddy of mine while he went inside real quick to get something. Sitting in my 1980 Turquise Honda Accord I saw this Pearl White G35 parked in front of me.. Where i was sitting I could see the beautiful tan leather seats that just looked so nice with the exterior color.. The G35 had its rear towards me and I could not help to notice that nice rear end look it has.. I started to look further while sitting in my $600 investment car(Honda Accord) and I notice a person sitting in the pasenger seat. That person was a she, blonde long hair, had sunglasses on.. The combination was just...(started to get excited down there..)

So 3 years has passed. I started my own business.. Was doing really well for myself. Walked out in the middle of my shift at Meijer and never went back. By this time i had gotten rid of the Accord and got a Chevy Cavalier lol..

I decided to drive to the Infiniti/Nissan dealership and the salesman brought out a red 350z touring and a red G35 coupe with sport package. Both were 6mt.. So i took the Z out first... Pull out the parking lot and put the foot all the way down. WOW! my adrenaline was rushing.. INSTANT love right there.. I was almost sure I was going to get the Z.. Came back to the dealer and jumped into the G35.. These were 2006 models by the way.. As I opened the door and sat inside.. I remembered the tan leather interior from when i first saw it. Man was it nice inside. The automatic motorized screen that popped up for the navi. All the buttons in there, the automatic heated leather seats, and the best of all it was a 4 seater.. So I pulled out of the parking lot.. again, I stepped down on the pedal and away we went.. Not as much as an adrenaline rush this time like i had on the Z.. Well... so i came back to the dealership and I had a choice to make.. Luxury or Speed... I chose the luxury as it still had an ok speed. I felt that the G35 looked sharper and I had big plans for it..

So now here we are with a 2006 G35c with a custom wide body kit twin turbo running at 550whp and still going throwing my bank account into the love of my life while the G and my future wife is fighting over each other for me. j/k lol.

^ Love it dal! I think its funny we both had Cavaliers and we both worked at Meijers part time before we started our careers!

I bet any of us can agree with a hot blonde(redhead in my case) sitting in the passenger seat would sell us on the G35!

needed a car had a budget around 30k, wanted, RWD/AWD, manual, japanese, 4 doors. was leaning toward an evo but G was more practical and cheaper too (new evo vs. used G, most used Evo's probably were thrashed) plus the G i found was fully loaded with only 8K on the odo

bought the car the day i got back from deployment (this is after i had been traveling for 36 some hrs) so i was hella jet lagged
