theres a compresor that pumps air into the tank. The tank has a pressure sensor so it activates the compressor when it is below a certain point. The switch is a valve connecting to the lines to allow air to go in and out of the cups. When you allow air to go in, the air pushes the cups down, compressing the spring, and raising the car. The other valve releases all the air so when the air is released, the cup goes back up to the original coilover state and the car lowers back to original height. Theres also a on off switch for the compressor so you do not have to leave it on if you're not planning to use it.

yup, it starts from your lowest point, then goes up. As for the allignment, it should not matter because you're not supposed to drive around long term in its raised height. Keep in mind, after it is raised, it lasts about 5 min before it starts going back down to your normal height because the air cannot stay in there forever. The purpose of the kit is to raise your car when you need to clear something.. not to raise it/lower it constantly while driving around.. you need air suspension for that!
