2009 Shanghai Auto Show (~100 pix, 56k no go)
I was on vacation in Shanghai, China for the last 4 weeks and during the last week of my stay, I went to the Auto Show on the 1st day of its running, April 22nd (the show runs until the 28th). This show is truly amazing to say the least. I'll summarize it in a list of words: massive amounts of people, concept cars, luxury autos, exotics, model girls, lots of hybrids and fun vehicles, and the most comprehensive auto parts trade show I've ever seen
Before viewing the pics, keep in mind that this is not like the Tokyo Auto Salon auto show where many modified and customized autos are displayed. China's international auto show is simply a way to exemplify the growth of the country's auto industry. Car culture in China is unlike that in the U.S. (for example, the Toyota brand in China is considered luxury and expensive to afford, whereas here almost any average Joe can get one). I'll explain more in some of the pics later on.
Before the front entrance of the show:
Roewe brand (created by the Shanghai Automotive Industry Corp.):
Cadillac CTS-V, Escalade Hybrid, SLS front & rear:
Buick LaCrosse (built specifically by Shanghai GM for the Chinese market, shown by the new exterior rear and exhaust):
One of many models in the show (here showcasing with the Chevy Cruze, new 2009 GM model):
Another one with a Saab XWD auto (forgot which model):
VW Cross Polo, half body cutout of a VW:
Toyota Camry (makes the US Camry look pale in comparison with LED tails, parking sensors, chrome accents on the rear and sides, thick chrome grille and mirror signals):
Have no idea what kind of car this is (but apparently a GAC model):
Hybrid SUV's from Art(?) and Kia:

Part 2
More girls:
Not sure if this is a concept or production model (could be a Pontiac?) but looks sweet with the black rims, BBK and LED running lights on the lower front end:
Ferraris:
Maserati:
Several vendor booths in the outdoor area of the show:
New Porsche Cayenne Turbo S Edition (550 hp, 0-60 in 4.7 sec, bigger brakes):
Other Cayenne models:
BMW 7 with AC Schnitzer mods:
M3 with AC Schnitzer mods:
Smart cars (really like the 2nd one with the Shanghai cityscape painted on the hood and body):

Part 4 (last set)
The G37 sedan gets some love
G37 coupe with JDM amber tails (standard equipment for all vehicles in China):
FX50 (7-speed auto, 390 hp, 369 ft-lb torque):
Nissan Teana J32 (exported as the Maxima and shares same platform with the Altima):
Sorry for the crappy interior shot:
Model runway set up on a platform above the VW section. Very nice way to get everyone's attention
Tai Concept with LEDs everywhere:
As you may know, China is reputable for producing and selling copied or counterfeit products. Check out this BYD auto with the copied Mercedes C/CLK headlights
Took a lunch break at the McD's in the show area. Can you say PACKED?
Never heard of this car brand but the logo is an obvious rip-off
New Porsche debut, 2010 Panamera 4-door sedan/hatchback:
Pink Chery QQ:
Model with some wheels:
Here is the auto parts trade show section I was talking about. This is absolutely ridiculous. You can find literally any part of your car in here, from timing chains and cams to electronic gauges and rubber gaskets. There are even some foreigners there looking to do business with parts vendors (seeing as how the Chinese can price the parts cheaply compared to most foreign currency, and the foreigner businesspeople can sell the parts back in their country for a healthy profit).
Took only a few shots before the camera died on me:
That's all I got out of the 5 hours spent at the show. Had a great time there and would highly recommend anyone to come to China to peep the country, culture and cars. It's like nothing else
