And how is this better than stock again? It's just for sound, that's all. It's a sound / performance tradeoff.

The stock intake system pulls air straight from the grill. The Weapon-R intake pulls air from the grill and from the engine compartment. Air from the engine compartment is less than ideal for performance. A true cold air intake would position the air filter outside of the engine compartment. Like the Nismo, AEM, Injen, etc.

 

That's the only issue I have with this particular set-up . . . Heat from the engine compartment.

 

If you use the heat-sheild from the JWT pc it works the same as having the popcharger.

andy, if you go up there in person, like i did, they will sell you the 3.5" version of the intake, and install it, too. and yes, it fits our cars perfectly.

Nobody ever implied that this is a cold-air intake. It is a ram-air, and I think a worthwhile mod. I had the same intake on my VQ35 Maxima and got great results in both sound and a drop of .3 seconds in the quarter mile...

 

There is no way a simple open air intake is going to increase you 1/4 time by three tenths of a second. More than likely, the improvement stems from a better 60 ft time and/or faster shifting, or even better track conditions (wind/temperature). Those things COMBINED with the upgraded intake would probably net you .3, but the intake alone surely does not.

 

Here you go. I knew I find it again. This from 350z tech's web page. Yes it is cut and pasted here.

"The CAI generally keeps the temperature of the air drawn into the engine about 20-25 degrees lower than the short ram. The temperature of the air taken into the engine also increases less than the WAI does at a stop.
What does this mean, in terms of performance? Generally, for each 10 degrees you drop in temperature, you gain an additional 1% in horsepower. This would mean the CAI would be putting roughly 3 more hp to the wheels than the short ram. Is it worth the extra cost? Well, that's up to you to decide."

After posting that, I have always used a CAI but this is my first without........... for now. Maybe I won't at all. The only thing bad I've heard about Weapon's filter is that after time it starts to deteriorate. Just be careful with it and you'll be fine. Hope it helps.

apparently the G35 intake is a 3" mandrel, but if you specify the cold air intake for the 350 Z it comes in a 3.5" mandrel.

 

I emailed Weapon-R directly and received this response concerning the 3.5" intake for the G35.

There is also supposed to be a difference between having a black MAF plug and a Grey MAF plug; I am not sure what the difference is though.
