I've been a Nissan fan for a long time. I've had 3 240SX's in the past (1 NA, 1 SR20DET, and 1 KA-T). The wife drives my '09 QX56 with Cajun long tube headers & hi-flow cats, JBA catback exhaust, Volant CAI, TransGo shift kit, custom tune by Cajun Tuning. I needed another sedan for a growing family so a G35 fit the bill.

I found this '05 6MT on Craigslist with no motor or transmission for a good price. The body and interior looked decent so I bought her.

My goal is to have a reliable daily driver that's also fun to drive.

 

I thought about throwing a VQ back in her but a LS swap had always interested me. I found a low mileage LS1 with some aftermarket goodies 3 hours from me. I had a T56 from a GTO shipped over from a guy selling one in Florida.






The LS1 has AFR heads, MS4 cam, and a FAST 102 manifold and TB.

I removed the front end to make putting the engine in a bit easier. The chassis has ~160K on it so it was in need of a good cleaning. It sat outside behind a shop for who knows how long so there was some rust and corrosion forming on most of the fasteners.




Most of the headlight tabs were broken so new headlights will be going in



The radiator support was cracked in a few places so a new one will be replacing it




I put some OEM rockers with the trunion upgrade in. Some new valve cover gaskets and a LS6 valley cover were also installed. The engine had a little bit of dirt and grime on the exterior, so all of that was cleaned off.

I have a SIKKY mount kit, headers, power steering kit, and clutch master cylinder kit.
I snagged a harness from WiringSpecialities.
The engine is getting all new sensors.
The brakes were shot and I will be replacing/upgrading all of the suspension front and rear.





The rear rotors practically fell apart after needing a hammer to get them off



The lower steering shaft U-joint is getting replaced



OEM clutch master cylinder and lines getting replaced with a Wilwood unit



New bearings and hubs will be installed

Today I got the fuel pump assembly out and partially dismantled.




I test fit the S13 gas pedal. It sits a bit higher and further back than the OEM pedal does but I think it will work out okay.

I also got the entire front suspension taken apart. Now I can start de-greasing, de-rusting, and re-painting the front end.

Following. Curious how the WS harness works out, I'm using one in my SR swapped S14. Didn't realize they were supporting the Z33/V35 platform now also.

 

I'll get some pictures of the harness up maybe this weekend. I've never used a pre-made harness for any of my past swaps. Initial quality of the WS one looks great. I plugged in all of the options I wanted one their website and they built it to suit my needs. We will see in a few months if she starts up the first try.

 

Owning a stock 06 GTO and a heavily modified 05 G Sedan I'm pumped to follow this build. Looking forward to every post and I must admit, I'm a bit jealous.

I wonder if the boys over on ls1gto would be interested in this as well, I freaking love that forum. Mostly mature and very technical, it's a different world over there than it is here these days........

 

The guy who did my Art Pipes install has an LS swapped G35 sedan, you'll find the engine bay has a lot more room with the V8 than the VQ35.

 

I'll have to check out LS1GTO. I haven't been to that site yet. I've lurked on LS1Tech for a little while looking for good parts deals.

I think the LS swaps look like they belong in the G/Z engine bay. Sure some people may not like the whole GM motor in a Nissan chassis thing, but it's my time and money and I'm gonna build it how I want it.

Didn't get any work done on the car this weekend. My second daughter was born Friday evening. I got some new parts delivered and finally unboxed the harness.

Once the new baby gets settled in, I should be able to put some wrench time. Plans this week are to get engine bay cleaned and painted, get the factory rear suspension dismantled, possibly drop the rear subframe to get ready for urethane bushings, and order some more parts.

 

Got a little bit of work done this afternoon. I got my sweet made in China Amazon special 6 ton press built.

I think LS engines from '01 only have the front tubes installed from the factory.



I wanted some extra peace of mind so I am using all four.

The plastic had to be notched a little bit to fit around the top of the pump

The top of the fuel pump housing needs a spot cleared to accept the return fitting



I used some cutting pliers and a Dremel to slowly flatten out a spot



Start with a small pilot hole and then use a step bit to get it to the right size



The plastic around the fuel indicator arm also had to be trimmed



95% put back together

Rubber hose trimmed to correct length and hose clamp installed



Ready for some new fuel lines and now I have a return line

Tomorrow I need to clean the garage up, clean the engine bay, get the old front suspension bushings pressed out, and order new bushings for the front.

 

No shoes working on an engine.....
