I must say you wont get the chance on beating me though, since I should be getting my M back on Tuesday

start the thread so you can commit yourself to Irwindale on the 20th lol I'm down like charlie brown. That's actually going to be the last drag night for this year.

i don't think you could get an SA2005 rated helmet for $100 or less; it would most likely be an MA2005 (motorcycle) helmet. you would be spending about $140 for an open face (pryotech) and $240 for full face (again, pryotech). the more expensive you go, the lighter the helmet will be (and it will have other cool things like vents and such).

older helmets are obviously cheaper, as most will be surely on closeout. and who cares how fancy it is? put a cheapy helmet on and tell me how you like it....then wear it for an hour or so.....then let me know if it lasted you more than a few months without falling apart or feeling gross. if all you are doing is going down a straight line for 9-15 seconds, then all you would need is an open face helmet. just make sure it fits well. if you are ever concerned about actually crashing and maybe catching fire, then stay away from an M rated helmet...unless you don't care about your face....

the helmet is going to be on his head for a minute or so. The discussion is about the 1/4 mile track not a road race.

i know...that's why i said an open face helmet would be just fine. regardless if it's on for one minute or a while day, it still needs to fit well and offer proper protection. being able to see is a great thing on track.

either way, you are looking at around $140 (ish) for an open face, SA2005 helmet. i hope i helped in your selection.

this is a 1/4 mile drag strip thread. Any helmet that meets minimum rating requirements is perfectly adequate. Unless you wear the helmet around in the pit area I don’t see how the hour long wear reference is relevant.

If you are referencing autocross, it would be a whole different story. Taking a street car down a 1/4 drag strip does not require anything fancy.

Edit: an CA Speedway only requires SNELL2000
