I took my lady to a nice bed and breakfast place in Santa Barbara, which was pretty cool. Very homie feel to it and the food was great I believe it was called the Orchid inn and was very close to State st and the freeway.

If you guys are active, Catalina is always a nice weekend getaway.. go snorkling &/or dolphin spotting cruise. We ate at Steve's steak house which was pretty nice and they make one heck of a martini. A little pricey but really fun!

Santa barbara is perfect. Stay a day or the weekend. Wine country is another great idea. If you think outside of L.A., there's always mexico, take a nice trip to the south end of the peninsula. Not bad...

Palm Springs has some nice resorts and a pleasant little downtown area to walk, shop, eat, whatever.

If you're going to SB then might as well go to Solvang about 1 hr north of SB. Nice little Dutch community nice place to eat and a good place to stay overnight. A bit pricey on the weekend but I think it's worth it. If not you can always go back to SB for the night. Then on the way back you can hit the outlet mall in Camarillo and you know how girls like that.

K, reiterate SB, but Solvang and Napa are awesome choices as well. If you plan a weekend, then SB and Solvang is not a bad idea!

+1 for Hearst Castle. . .

If you wanna go all out, stay at the "Little Sur Inn" in Cambria, request a 2nd floor ocean view room, and go to Hearst one day, and a limo "wine tour" the second day. . .I know a few good vineyards up there. :-) (Norman, Justin, just to name a few!) Good Luck!
