^ I'm not the only one. It's ~50/50 I guess. Some no more OC, some with mild (me), some enough to be considered a 'fail' and qualify for another replacement. It's about the same with the 350Z's too on their OC thread.
Keep in mine, it's the 6mt's that are plagued the most with this, not 5at's.
Despite my OC, I still love my 06 coupe (with lots of warranty left too lol).

I confirmed with my original VQ that 1qt = L/H on stick and didn't mean my new also. My mistake on that. New one has only had complete 5qt oil changes and only confirm new one to be at F with 5qts w/filter, same as my old one as well. Next oil change, I will try the 3 and then 4 qt test and check level on stick each time. <O</O
Hmmm...interesting point and possible. Original factory VQ's came from Japan. First version revup replacements came from Tennessee plant pt# ending M1, where Altimas are assembled and other Nissan vehicles. Second revised revup version replacements pt# ending M9 and released May/June of 2007, came from Japan again. <O</O

Hi... When last we traded info a few months back you said that on your next oil change on your new engine you were gonna check to see if your dipstick L-H represented one or two quarts of oil... Did you go ahead and do that and if so, what did you learn??? Just curious... thanks... bob..

It is definitely an improvement but I don't know if cooler weather is the culprit for *no O.C.*. I'll keep checking till summer and will post when she starts drinking again, but I'm hoping that there's no more issues concerning Oil Consumption.

Maybe during this interval I'll know, but only if I have to add any make-up oil on this V2 replacement (for my sake hopefully not)
If no make-up oil added, I'll try to remember next service and see if first 4qts = L on my stick or half way L/H.

Funny how these questions come up again after they were discussed and put to rest over a year ago. Maybe not discussed on this thread, so here goes...
4 quarts = L on the hash mark of dipstick. Had this proved over a year a go when we were still trying to get a TSB issued. Myself present and the dealer technician, drained the oil, filled up 4 qrts, let it sit for 20 min, took a reading and BAM, it measure on the “L” hash mark, hence the amount of oil between the L & H hash marks is 1quart. It’s also an industry standard on other makes, that the “low mark” on a dipstick is 1 qrt LOW. Makes sense to keep the industry on the same page.

When I would be a quart low 'L' mark on my old VQ burner, it would always go back to 'H' when I added a quart.
Essentually the same test with same results/confirmation as yours.

2004 coupe burning oil and warranty almost up!
Hi Guys,
I've been doing alot of reading on this website about the oil consumption for quite some time now as I've been monitoring my own oil usage.
Last time I did my oil change, I had lost 3 Qts in 5000km! (yes i'm from canada).
Now i've been monitoring it and I lost 1.3L in 700km so i'm obviously burning alot of oil. I took it to a dealership here and they topped it up and said come back in 1000km. The only problem is my 2004 G35 is at 103300km and my warranty is up on Jan 3rd . 2009!!!!!
now you know my scenario, my question to you is:
IF I put on 1000km asap and take it in, will they top it up again and ask me to come back in 1000 and then determine if it's manufacture's defect, or will the begin the testing immediately? And how long does it take to determine if it's a Manufacture's defect so it is covered by warranty? Finally, What are the other possibilities of an overheating engine, that would not be covered by warranty???

^ Don't know what 103,300km is in miles off the top of my head, but US powertrain warranty here is 5yrs/70,000mi which ever comes first. Sounds to me like they already started testing with you. Check your paperwork to make sure they did. Yea they most likely will do a couple more of those OC tests on you. Year 2004 doesn't follow 05-07 TSB OC test guidelines.
Bottom line: Here in US, if you started official testing for a powertrain warranty issue before warranty expiration, believe they must honor warranty when they finally determine replacement is needed. Key thing is official testing/documentation of issue started before warranty was up.
Don't know about Canada, but hope that helped. Might want to confirm with Infiniti Customer Care up there if it's the same as what I mentioned here in US.
