why try and fix it.. take that shiet back asap.. don't even attempt to fix it.. there is obviously something wrong with it.. you have a 12,000 mi/12month warranty on parts and labor..
just my $.02
just my $.02
Hey guys I am havign an issue with the new engine and wanted to know if anyone else is having the same problem...
Alf
I got the new engine swap a couple months back with no big problems..
Anyways, they gave it dino oil when I first got the car...I have put a total of about 4000 miles on the car since I got the new engine..
Btw I broke the engine in for over 2000 miles without hitting over 4000k rpm...I went past what the dealer recommended just to be safe.. (1200 miles)
Anyways, the problem with the car is that after a night or day or driving slightly hard...I come into the garage and the car is burning/smoking under the hood...This shouldnt be happening and I thought it might be due to the dino oil they used (or it being low). So I went ahead and did an oil change yesterday...had a drive last night and am having the same issues with the smoke coming after a hard drive...
Some other minor details are that I swapped with Castrol full synthetic which isnt making any positive or negative effects on the issue (I thought it would fix it since maybve the smoke is bc the oil is low)...Also in order to produce the smoke I only have to do one WOT run or even just pull really hard in one gear...after I do either I am guaranteed to get this smoking from the new engine when i pull into the garage..The engine has too many miles on it now for it to be havign these problems due to the "breakin" period...
If anyone can help please chime in...

Nice.. They admit that excessive oil consumption is "normal" with their engines.

Basically same excuse I was given way back in the pre-TSB days. Plus had to be 1qt/1000mi or worse before they'd even care.
I just bought an 06 MT Coupe. I'm definitely falling into the "Bad" category according to the TSB.
So I called the dealer, and am going in for the OC test. They said I have to go back in after 1k miles for a top-off and measurement, then drive another 1k miles, another top-off and measurement, and then another 1k miles for final measurement. Can they really make me do this? I thought that after the first 1k miles, if it's in the "bad" range, they will schedule the engine replacement right then. Am I wrong? What a pain in the *** this has been.
Also, anybody have any bad experiences with the new engine they put in? It's my impression that at first they replaced with the same engine and people continued experiencing issues, but now they only replace with a Japanese version of the engine that runs fine.
Thanks!

Uh...nowhere in the TSB does it say the testing method your dealer states. Topping off is a very old trick. They will no doubt overfill you with those top-offs.....
Another Dealer near you possible, if so try them instead and see if they mention their testing method (like TSB does).
My replacement still has some OC, but nothing like the one replaced.

Update
Thanks V35 Skyline. It's definitely worth going through this process, for sure. What a PITA though...
So, I called Infiniti of Tysons Corner, and was straightforward with them about the run-around I was getting from Passport. The guy I spoke with said the same thing: that Infiniti requires three checks for the OC test. I got frustrated and was like "dude, I know that's your standard for other Infinitis, but I have the TSB right in front of me and you guys are supposed to replace after the first check, if it fails." His response, after some back and forth and him being a complete jerk was "STOP READING TSBs!" I'm going to talk to his manager tomorrow. What really gets me, is that these dealers get MAD at you when you take away their ability to give you the run-around. If they had the customer's best interest in mind, they would see the TSB as an opportunity to service us better, and not waste my time.
Sorry for the rant...I'm just frustrated that I haven't even started the process yet and its already looking like I'll have to fight for the new motor I deserve.

PITA: Unfortunate but true for some. Mine sure was a PITA, but some no problem at all getting replacement.
Many stories of good/bad dealer experiences and what to watch out for in here and here: https://g35driver.com/forums/g-spot/...-your-oil.html
Current TSB is in here somewhere. I've posted that a few times. OP on first post still has old TSB. Don't use that one with dealer.
Agree...dealers HATE when 'we' know what's up and take the BS wind out of their sails. Well, tuff tata's I say....
Good Luck
Update:
Japan Spec V2 Rev-Up motor now has apprx 30K miles and 2 years of ownership on it and no oil consumption issues at all. The motor seems to run smoother these days that it used to when I first bought it. It just feels faster, and the clutch and transmission shift smoother. Also, I always read that these cars eat brakes and I have 20K on my brakes with over 75% left. I guess I am one of the lucky ones.
I regret having to sell it. It is a blast to drive on the Dragon's tail and my usual Smokey Mtn drives.
My opinion of the dealership still remains however - My dealership experience was and is terrible and I hate every minute of being in Infiniti of Lake Norman. This will be the last car I ever buy at a dealer, there is such slime in car sales.

Yeah, that's very true. The service mangers, even if they used to be good techs, are really just salesmen for the maintenance department.
I just got my G back today with a brand new short block. no long block even though i met the service bulletin requirements. Does anyone know if there is a break in period for just the short block? I asked my service rep a few times and he never got around talking to the mechanic...I had to rush back to my store and didnt have time to talk to the mechanic myslef. DOes anyone know about a break in period with a short block? I only know of the 1200 long block break in... any information is appreciated!
break in period is about piston rings, so yeah if you believe in following it, it still applies
I followed it when they replaced my engine, doesnt seem to be burning much oil now

Im planning on doing a hard break in to maximize live/strengh. How about switching to synthetic after the break in period (royal purple maybe?)? Also has anyone upgraded their pistons to the weisco piston kit? I am really curious about that, I'm planning on it if its worth it

im waiting 10k to switch to synth...someone said that so i figured I would give it a shot, no hurry.
I broke my RSX in hard and switched to synth after like 5000-6000 miles and it always consumed a good bit of oil

Most Synths of today are Group III (Dino) based with their proprietary add packs. Many new engines come from factory with Synths. BMW's, VW's and even the GTR with the VQ38VHR....
I used a blend in the beginning, then to a Group III Synth at ~3700mi, then a Group IV PAO based 100% Synth starting at 7K mi from that point on.
Too easy of break-in = not good.
Too hard of break-in = not good (glazing the rings and honed cylinder walls before seating/sealing is 100% finished = excessive blow-by all it's life).
There's a fine line between.
