It seems to me that those of you stuck in this mess could team up with a list of names and pretty much force Infiniti to replace your entire rear differential assembly with one that has VLS. I would think if a large group of PAYING CUSTOMERS were to seek legal counsil (might want to mention that to Infiniti) that they would provide their customers with equipment they were led to believe they were purchasing for the amount already paid.

Just my opinion and the way a would persue things if I had this problem.

Good luck to all.

I'm no differential expert, but I do know that a viscous limited slip diff is the best way to go. What kind of diff does it have instead of the VLSD?

The new 05 Performance package comes with an open differential. The VLSD is actually the worst LSD type in terms of performance but the easiest to maintain (with highest reliability).

I assume that depending on the amount of noise being made that Infiniti will do a buy-back kinda like how Mazda did their buy back on the RX8 when it was misrepresented.

Wow, what a screwup that is. I'd be seriously ticked if my auto Coupe didn't come with VLSD.
I'd be after the dealer to do a trade or retrofit the LS, and $250 wouldn't begin to make me happy

i don't know much about the mechanics of automobiles. so, can someone tell me if the vlsd would really make much difference in the driving experience for normal every driving? i would definitely think on the track it would make a difference though. but can a normal individual really notice if it's there or not. i did own a 03 5at coupe that didn't have the vlsd. i'm eager to get my 05 6mt coupe to see the difference if any. i've never had a car with lsd so i wouldn't know either way: )~

I think for those people who have already received their '05 auto coupes, you should NOT accept the paltry $250 that Infiniti is going to offer you - you should insist that they retrofit a VLSD on your car. There are probably a few hundred people who have been driving around in their new cars thinking it has a safety/performance feature that it does NOT have. Infiniti really dropped the ball on this, and allowing them to simply cut everyone a check is letting them off the hook way too easy. If I had already taken posession of my car, I would absolutely do this. I am not in as strong a position to do this because my car is still on order, so I think it would be difficult for me to try and force Infiniti to give me a new differential. I wish I already had the car so I could be the first person to get in Infiniti's face about this, I would try and set a good example for all the other affected coupe owners and show them that with enough tenacity David can win against Goliath!

You have to determine whether your "Sports and Premium Package" is the "Performance Tire and Wheel Package" or "Sport Tuned Suspension Package" offered by Infiniti.
Look at the invoice for wording and contact the dealer for details of your ride. He'll have all the particulars of the rides involved.

Actually on a track you'd turn off the VDC and/or traction control. The VDC is for the majority of the population (reads you and me and 99% of the rest of the world) who have not been behind the wheel on a track with a certified professional drivers instructor. VDC cuts the power to only one wheel to keep the rear end from trading places with your front bumper. This system, according to most professional drivers, is too intrusive. A real professional driver wants to be able to take the vehicle to it's limits to get around the track as fast as possible. You and I just want to drive on public roads and not kill others. With a VLSD, there is a fluid that heats up. This fluid basically expands and... (to keep matters really simple)... causes the "SLIP" light to come on. This is a sign that the vehicle is killing power to one of the rear wheels. There are mechanical LSD's which are more favorable (like the one on the new M3 with the performance package) which is "supposed" to be track ready. As long as there is a button to turn it off, I suppose it will be track ready...

neffster,
i'm a bit confused. i thought the vdc system is on all coupes and the vlsd is a separate "thing". i believe i had the vdc (vehicle dynamic control) option but definitely not vlsd (viscous limited slip differential) on my 5at.

my main question though is just will the average driver notice the difference driving with and without a slip differential?
