my main question though is just will the average driver notice the difference driving with and without a slip differential?
I'm confused too. I thought that turning VDC off (which you do at the track) doesn't deactivate the rear limited slip, which you need to prevent wheel spin, therefore you need it in order to launch well.

I thought the vdc was to shut down the power to both rear wheels if there is a significant loss of traction....
The Limited Slip Differential, in my belief, is basically what they used to call "posi traction" which allows power to the opposite wheel that has lost traction....

Technically, if you pull a hole shot, both rear wheels should leave a rubber mark on launch....it you didn't have a limited slip, only one wheel would drive the car only.....hence a single rubber mark from that wheel......

I could be 100% wrong on this, maybe the new terminology is different than what I grew up with in the late 60's

My '91 300ZX has a VLSD, but does not have VDC or traction control at all.

Here's how the 300ZX brochure explains what the VLSD does:

"Getting power smoothly to the ground under all load conditions is the job assigned to the VLSD. Using high viscosity silicon oil, the differential transfers power to whichever rear wheel has the greatest traction. During hard cornering, it prevents the lightly loaded inside tire from spinning, and delivers most of the power to the vehicle's more heavily loaded outside tire. This helps increase stability and control, even over irregular of slippery road surfaces."

I assume the G's VLSD is basically identical.

VDC and traction control have nothing to do with the differential. VDC applies appropriate brake pressure to individual wheels so the car stays on the appropriate path. Traction control senses wheelspin and automatically reduces engine output. VDC is controlled by sensors/computer and the differential is simply a mechanical part with no electronics involved.

I've had my car for 3 weeks tomorrow.
"I knew my car had a VLSD as of 10 minutes ago from the Car Sticker"

Now it doesn't.

$250 is not acceptable. I will not accept just $250 for a part that costs nearly 4 times that.

and you shouldn't. If it were me and I had ordered a new car from the factory, I would not be satisfied unless I got a new car built by the factory that is to the specs I ordered. I don't want some dealer retro-fitting parts with a greater chance of problems or a lower quality install compared to one off the factory line.

Also, if this is indeed true which is appears to be the case, this post should be stickied and a news flash put on the front page of the site, it seems like a pretty significant issue to me!

PEOPLE PEOPLE LISTEN, i think i am one of those HEAD start people. I called the infiniti coporation and they said the car is not their property anymore. They will contact the dealership and will give me call back within 48 hrs. (They both seem to don't know the problem yet.) I said i don't care, one way or another it's you guys fault. I demand a car with such system or money back. Or else you guys will be in bigger trouble.

IMO, G35 is their hottest car. I am sure they don't want any bad affection to it. They definitely don't want to see " INFINITI LIES" on the newspaper and TV news. They will do better than $250 for all the problem G35.

This is what I expected them to do from the begining. A little $250 back is a slap in the face. Nissan is literally laughing at their customers. They have this attitude of "look, I can do anything, this car is so hot" (same as with the Brembo out of 05). How can such a blatant mistake occur???? The people responsible should be fired over this. BTW, this is another point in the column of "why not to buy a Nissan product". I would not like to be in the owners shoes right now.

EDIT: Good job kenempireex

how 'bout we all call our local tv news stations and have them do an "investigation" report. if television news crews start popping up at various infiniti dealerships, then maybe infiniti will realize that g owners won't take this lying down.

I think anyone with the 05' and the package should start calling infiniti customer services.
