Engine is stock and will stay that way. Is an Osiris tune worth it?
So as the title states, will an Osiris flash/tune net any worthwhile gains on a bone stock (Z-tube, nismo drop-in) 06 G35 VQ 5AT?
I've dabbled with heavily modded cars in the past (see signature), but I have no intentions of repeating the "point of no return" list of mods with my G35.
I did some searches, and it seems everyone waits until they have all the standard bolt-ons before they get a tune (as they should). I couldnt find any bone stock vs tuned-bone stock info though.
I'm in Los Angeles, so naturally I'll be going to S. Church for an Osiris setup/tune. I'm looking for a 91 Octane only tune and increased MPG.
Thanks in advance!

I'd say no, simply because you are looking for increased fuel efficiency. The gains you may see in fuel economy will probably never outweigh the price of the tune. Also, you may argue now but it will happen, you are going to get a heavier right foot and your fuel economy will really drop.
If you do get the Osiris then I promise you will be hooked and start ordering more bolt-on's, get ready for it! Osiris is a very nice product though.

I think that it would be worth it, you gain some cool features such as launch control, valet map, a couple extra horsepower. I would look into make at least a z tube and popcharger

thanks guys! but i honestly know for sure that i wont be modding this car. if i do, it'll be a big decision - like twin turbo down the line. i've learned from the past haha, do it right the first time.
meh, its a toss up. you might see minimal gains, if any.
Obviously, the more mods you get the more you benefit from the tune.
If you have the money to throw around, id say why not. You can get a fuel economy map, launch control (if its a 6mt), and some other things.
If you dont have money to throw around, i will say no.
Good luck on your choice!

What's this launch control? I've never heard of it and I have both 6MT and Osiris.
Even if you do go TT down the road, you can have Uprev tune your car for that rather than use another device.

Like it's even fair for me to answer but here we go.
Even on a totally stock vehicle if you do a dyno tune there will always be some gain. It may not be a billion horsepower but you will get some gain. Tuning is about efficiency and I have yet to see a car that comes stock at peak efficiency. You can dial in a little safety too most the time, and I for certain have seen some cars come in that have been way outside the safety margin from the factory.
You will see power gains from the motor running in it's efficient zones, and thats generally what people express when they talk about tuning. You can sometimes push a motor outside it's safety zone and get a little more power, but most of our Pro Tuners are not going to do that to you. Simply stated, it sucks to have to tell a person how much a rebuild is after they trusted you to tune their car.
If you ask how much power will be gained or how much better mileage you'll get and you get a direct answer, just walk away and do business elsewhere. Every car is different, and we never make those kind of goofball marketing claims. Your car will gain the power and efficiency that it's going to gain simple as that.
Value. Thats a hard one to answer, everyone has their own reasons for modifying their car. If you want a dollars and cents analysis then you're going to have to compare apples to apples. How much is it going to cost you to drive to one of our Pro Tuners and back home, are you going to get Osiris Flash and have them dyno tune it or do you want to add Cipher so you can data log it (some people are gadget geeks and need to know that stuff), how much are they quoting you for the dyno tuning itself. Then you post that against how much fuel costs, over X number of miles, and you're going to own is X number of years, plus if it's running safer then hopefully you have less repairs in the long run. I dunno, to me that seems kind boring and honestly you can make a case either way.
Value part two. Features that we have beyond dollars vs. fuel/repair would be things like Map Switching, Back to stock, Resale, Upgradeability, and the list goes on because our system is so flexible.
Honestly I lived in Hollywood on Fuller Ave (between Sunset and Fountain) and also on Whitley (between Hollywood and Franklin) and something as simple as a safety map could mean the world to you. Imagine someone trying to steal your car and they can't go more than 10mph and the car won't rev above 1500rpm. They'll give up after a block and abandon it. So maybe thats the selling point for you.
Or you like to go out and eat, my favorite hobby and something I miss about living there. It's ****ty to try and park anywhere in Hollywood with all the zoned parking, and what nights you can park on this side vs that side of the road. So you want to valet your car but you have horrible nightmares about Ferris Buellers Day Off. Great so one of your maps is a Valet Map and it caps them at 35mph and 3500rpm.
Try going anywhere from Hollywood during normal business hours. I lived on Whitley and had to get to Burbank every day for 2 years. So you get an Economy Map, limits you to 4500rpm, and runs in a safe lean condition. Saves you gas over a period of time and helps to curb your road rage when the rev limiter kicks in. Plus you're not going anywhere when it's 8:30am and you're heading over Barham Blvd.
Two years down the road you decide to trade in your car on the new cool Infiniti or Nissan. Take it back to the Pro Tuner, have him flash your car back to stock, and flash your new car with the Osiris License. All you're paying for is the new dyno tune. Keep moving it from car to car for the next 2 decades, I don't care. Or lets say you decide that you're getting a Hemi Truck cause those commercials are just so amusing (hey, that thing got a hemi?). Great take it to the Pro Tuner, return your car to stock, sell the Osiris Flash for whatever someone will offer you for it and they can get it from the Pro Tuner.

wow thanks UpRev, the areas you've described are clearly in my commute, and you've described my point of view very well. that alone will push me to purchase your product.
those safety/valet modes sound wonderful as well.

Whitley was a whole different bag of beans. Living on the 8th floor of a solid concrete building and having a live DJ at your house warming with no noise complaints was awesome, and the view was incredible. But ungodly expensive.
I pretty much gave up on having a car while I lived there though, and just ended up taking the bus to work every day.
The only reason oem detunes WOT is to insure that it's warranty costs are low and engine last thru a reasonable period to not affect new car sales.
OBDII has allowed oem to run closer to bleeding edge [since every sensor has a backup sensor]. Pre 1996 could get massive gains 10-15% if adjusted to shorten reliable life whereas recent models may only have 5% thanks to new wideband O2 sensors running closer to edge [peak power A/F ratio].
A radical software change on my 90 Q45 was good for 14% [27 HP/33lbft] whereas the same on a newer M45 [same displacement] only gained 7HP/9 lb/ft] and the newer engine couldn't stand today's poor quality premium whereas the old 10.2 CR works ok after 19 years and 321,000 miles.
I always keep an oem ecu in trunk just in case I buy defective gasoline by mistake on the road.

+1 I never knew Osiris has launch control

: Does it?
LOL it does with map switching. We didn't intend it to work that way but we've had a few customers have us set up their cars for it.
Official launch control is on the agenda though.

If you are actually interested in the UpRev Osiris, why not just add some very basic (but proven) modifications such as a Moterdyne spacer? It doesn't make your car any louder or sound different, nor is it visually noticeable. Yet makes great gains and would probably add more gains with a tune rather than a tune itself on a stock VQ.
Just my 2 cents...

I can't wait for my tune! I'm getting my 3.5FD installed this week then I'll get it tuned in the next few months. I've heard the exact same things.
I think with my mods it'll make a huge difference.
+1 on the MD spacer. Its a must have for our cars IMO
