^ Good call... That's probably what he meant. I haven't had to worry about updates yet, since I just bought my car a few months ago and it has the most recent update already. The infiniti Navigation system and interface is by far the best I've used so far and I've had several Garmins, a Tom Tom, and a Magelion. The Garmin's are by far the best of the potable devices, but nothing beats having an integrated nav system.

I would be willing to bet that the Garmin is better than my integrated Honda navigation system

Hey Folks,

I just received a coupon from NAVTEQ. So they took 20% off... about $140 for the update. I'm wondering if anyone has figured out how to get this uploaded without the dealership.

Same here, $140. You really only need it every two years or so. Not a lot of money if you ask me.

well you gotta add the extra $100 the dealership is gonna charge you to do a 10 minute upload of navigation software. $240.. the cost of a good portable nav

- Still it worth it if someone out there knows how to by-pass the dealership's $100 "service" charge..

It only cost me $50 the last time I had it done and dealer advised that is all they would charge in the future. All part of the cost of ownership and I would spend more hanging out with the guys on a Saturday night

I called one of the local dealers and they quoted me 1 hr worth of work, so $130 above and beyond the actual navteq upgrade cost.

That's insane. Anyone know if only infiniti dealers can do the work or if any third parties can do the upgrade?

I was just going through some of my original dealer paperwork and found a USB cord with the navigation literature.

I'm willing to bet that this can be done without the dealership.

Does anyone here work for a dealership know of this process?

You can do it yourself if you have a CONSULT III diagnostic PC.

BTW ... I saw a couple on ebay starting at around $4K if you are interested. I'm sure you will have a lot of new friends in the forum if you got it too!

Another reason I could not justify getting the OEM Nav option. G's Nav is great, but it's the fact that there aren't free lifetime updates + stealer gouging to go along with it has to be annoying. Since I bought the G, I already changed/sold 2 Nuvis (660 and 760) for nearly what I paid for them, and my current 855 does pretty much everything I need it to do, has voice commands, can be adjusted while the car is moving and is just as accurate as the OEM.
