I am trying to find the best converter to hook up my ipod to my stock hu. Its a 06 G35 Coupe with factory satellite that I dont want to lose. Do you know of a good way i can do that. Ivebeen told of one way but I heard that t cuts out every time the antenna is blocked.

It's wierd that they sell these boxes when they won't even work without bypassing the motion lockout.
To bad there's not a way for the car to know it's a navigation unit so you wouldn't have to go to the trouble of the hack.

You may get more knowledgeable responses if you posted your question in the 1st gen coupe or sedan section as the 07+ G35's head unit is completely different than on a 1st gen 06 coupe's.

would this work on a 08 g37? has anyone else try this thing out yet?

This works perfectly. Just did my 07. The only negative is that you can not listen to the radio in radio mode and use the nav at the same time. Youn have to toggle back and forth.

I just did this on my 08 G35 XS about 2 or 3 weeks ago with the help of some of the guys on the G35 NYC site (thanks again). I don't know sh... about car electronics, but there's a great thread on G35 NYC that walks you through the video bypass. I'm not sure if there's a difference in wiring between the 35 and 37 though. Also, there's another thread on G35 NYC that shows how someone used an audio switch to allow them to listen to the IPod while viewing the Garmin in AUX mode. I haven't attempted that one yet, but I'm working up a scheme to incorporate the audio switch and a video switch that will accommodate an aftermarket backup camera. Good luck!

Is there a newer updated model gps, or is the garmen 520 black box the newest?

i think the newest one is the garmin gvn-53...i was contemplating getting the newest one, but i realized the only difference between the gvn-52 and the gvn-53 is that the 53 is able to work really well inside tunnels...but other than that, there hasn't been any major modifications from what i understand...there is however, a very large price difference...i purchased the gvn-52 for $320 shipped, whereas i've seen the gvn-53 going for around $450-500....

For those who have installed the Garmin or Kenwood blackbox GPS, how is the video quality through the composite video input? The pictures of GPS screen shots of the LCD display have text that looks a bit blurry. Are the text blurry or it's just the way the picture was taken? Thanks.

For those looking for a voltage triggered audio switch I found this one Niles AVS-2. The only problem is that it's kinda big. I'm sure there must be smaller ones out there. I'll keep searching. Being that I do custom home AV I've had to use Niles switchers on several occassion in the past and they are very reliable.

This is a great thread! It is exactly what I was looking for. Our '08 only came with the Premium Package.

I was first trying to figure out if like our Mini Cooper that came pre-wired for Sirius and for pennies on the dollar getting the SAT radio installed. But it looks like this way may actually be easier, cheaper and nicer than the factory unit.

One of my main concerns is removing interior parts correctly. By finding the locations of hidden screws and snap clips.

Also does anyone have the pictures of antenna install under the brake lamp? I really want everything hidden as much as possible.
