just so i have this clear, does this mean there is no way to listen to FM radio or Sirius Satellite radio while the Garmin is running? And if not, how do you toggle back and forth (do you just hit "aux" on the screen?).
Unfortunately you have to be in AUX to use the navigation which does not allow you to listen to the Satellite or radio. I have this set up and just recently unplugged the red & white AUX cables from the Garmin and installed an Apple Composite AV Cable to the AUX so now I can have the navigation screen on and listen (and charge) to my iPod at the same time. You just have to live w/o the voice commands. You could also install the extra speaker that comes with the Garmin.

I think it would be very straightforward and discrete to just install the additional speaker under the dash against the firewall or something along those lines... or re-wire the center channel to receive just garmin input...

So fry and peter - I have it envisioned in my head that there is a way to drive with the Sat radio playing, and the GPS pushing it's own tweeters (hidden away in the sail panels) instead of the one speaker box that comes with it (it will be a cleaner install i think). I understand I would have no picture, but does this sound possible? In other words, if I am in Sat mode, will the GPS at least still be running so that it can push its own audio (on top of the music playing in the Sat setting). I wouldn't mind scrolling back to the AUX to get the GPS picture every now and then... Thanks in advance, hope this question wasn't too convoluted.

My guess is that this could work. I believe the navigation is always running as long as the car is on even when no in AUX mode so the voice commands coould come in on the separate speakers.
For the Garmin GVN 53 there are two green wires with SPKR on them that could be wired to the tweeters your speaking of.
Let me know if you figure out how to do this.

Need Help ASAP

Just purchased an '07 G35X with premium package but without navigation. I read through these threads and now know that I can hook up an external navigation system to run through my original screen. But I have some questions and any help would be greatly appreciated.

1. Is there any way to hook up an external GPS System that lets me use my up/down/left/right arrows? Or is it only able to be accessed via the remote it comes with?

2. Is there an external GPS system that is also a DVD player so I can watch movies on my original screen while the car is in motion?

Looking forward to some help because boy do I need it! Thanks!

1. only via the RF remote
2. no after market GPS/DVD combo units for the 2nd gen sedan. You don't want to know what I think of the idea of you watching movies while the car is in motion. A recommendation - I wouldn't say stuff like that on this forum.

Thanks for the reply. Yeah probably not a good idea. More for the passengers than myself to be honest. So what would be the best aftermarket GPS system to get? GVN53?

Definately the GVN53 or the GVN52 if you can find one for less $.
Oh and I found that these guys in Calgary have it for the lowest price I've ever seen for a new one. I emailed them to confirm the price was in Canadian dollars and they responded that it is correct. $299.95. I don't think you can beat it.

It's in stock now for 199.95. I'm thinking about getting it.

Just a question that I don't recall seeing a definite answer to: When the navi is running, if I were to not care about the voice directions, can the radio/cd still play over the speakers while the navi displays on the screen?

No.
The Infiniti head unit would need to be set on AUX to view the Nav. You can switch back and forth. Another thing to do is use the red and white RCA for an iPod or something. Doing this will allow you to see the Nav on screen while you listen to music from your iPod.
It's not perfect but look at it this way. $199 for and nice 'integrated looking' Nav is a bargain. Personally I'm sticking with my portable unit.
Cheers.

I am about to do this on my g37. Anyone know if I didn't want to do the bypass if I could use the PAC VCI-X adapter for video display? Planned on usuing external speaker for audio

Someone used the VCI-NIS1 adapter for their g37, but my installer insists I'd need the VCI-X....

thanks

I can only assume you mean you want the video to function while driving. The Aux Video will not display any image while the vehicle is in motion. The vehicle must be in park with the emergency brake engaged. Simply adding a device, such as a PAC unit, will not over ride this safety feature.

hmmmmmm are you 100% positive? I was under the impression by the guy who already did this and the installer that the PAC adapter is in replace of the bypass....

thanks
