My friend installed mine for me. I have a Kenwood DD so I bought a Kenwood camera. Pretty sure it was just plug and play. I will ask him if he remembers.

i tried the brake and nothing..
So here is the current set up,
I have everything connected, came along the driver side and tapped into the orange and black, my guess orange is positive and black is negative. Then i just ran the wire along the side to test it out and nothing still im not sure if that red wire where the aux input has to be connected to something Im bypassing the video by holding down the aux button.

Hi all.

I like the idea but I'm not sure about the camera quality. Any feedback?

It might be easier to buy a quality camera and attach it to the light?

I am kind of looking at this one:

CCD Color Car Reverse Rear View Parking Back Up Camera for Infiniti G35/G37 Sedan G37 Coupe 2D Infiniti G37 Convertible 2D Nissan Skyline
http://amzn.com/B00GQV5BWY

It looks convenient but $20 for CCD? Seems too good to be true. I want a good quality image.

I was looking at the Boyo license plate bar which is $100 more.

I'm having a little trouble understanding what you've done so far, so i'll just throw these out there....

* i see you're using the orange and black wires, which is correct so if you want to confirm the connection is good just have someone put the car in reverse and step on the brake and use a DVM to measure 12V from the camera plug

* you're using the aux input but the video won't display without the parking brake engaged, so that won't do you any good for a backup camera. we aren't allowed to discuss the "forbidden mod" here either.

So here's the simple test....engage the parking brake, keep your foot on the brake pedal and put the car in reverse and see if the video comes up. If that's the case you've wired everything correctly.
