The V36 Coilover info thread
This wasn't really JIC's screw-up, so please don't bad mouth them... The problem came up when a couple of vendors were trying to sell the V35 version of the VIP FLT-TAR's for the V36 chassis cars. I was a little concerned when I saw these advertised, because I didn't see them listed on their website & and the spring rates seemed a bit too low for the heavier V36 chassis, so I talked to JIC directly and found out that they had never fitted the VIP's to the 2nd gen cars before, so, since I am local to them, I worked with them to come up with a set of VIP's specifically for our cars. The new VIP FLT-TAR's will have 10 kg / 8 kg, front / rear spring rates, as well as slightly modified valving to match the new spring rates... so, the VIP units will be slightly more compliant than the standard FLT-TAR units, but with heavier spring rates than their VIP's for the 1st gen cars. The only part that they still have to custom fabricate is the lower mounting bracket for the front coil-overs... According to JIC, this will probably be another 3 - 4 weeks before these are ready. These units can be used with the current bracket, but as was already mentioned before, the minimum drop in the front will be in excess of 1.5", so you will definitely be riding low.
I'm not sure if that's what happened in MoCo's case or not, as I wasn't involved in that, but I do know that when I first contacted JIC about 4 weeks ago (right after I saw a thread on here about a vendor offering these) they told me that they didn't have the VIP units available for the V36 cars yet, so any vendor stating they did was probably mistaken. So, in this case, I doubt JIC shipped the wrong units, but only shipped what they offered at the time.
I remember asking in that vendor's thread if they were for the V36, as I also thought they weren't available yet, but the vendor insisted they were.
Strange. I wonder who is really at fault here.

I love my JIC's the engineering is 1st class!!!
An the car handling is amazing now!
..Thanks for digging into this, it's making much better sense now.
It would seem the vendors got a little confused. with V35/V36
It isn't the first time this has happened
& I think it's partly due to the sedans G35 name, for 07 & 08.
The coupes don't have this confusion. (G35=1st gen, G37=2nd)
...that said, a vendor should know his product line. (if that was the problem here)
^ I know you weren't bad mouthing them... I just didn't want to single out one person in my statement, so I made it too general, I guess. I just hate it when people are so quick to bad mouth someone else on these forums especially when they don't have all of their facts straight.
I agree complete, that the whole 1st and 2nd gen G35 is VERY confusing... what even makes it worse is that they offered the V35 G35 Coupe in 2007, yet the sedan was the newer V36 chassis, so what might fit a 2007 G35 coupe won't work on a 2007 G35 sedan, however, what works on a 2008 G37 coupe works perfectly on a 2007 G35 sedan. Just very confusing for some.
I was getting mixed answers from the vendor when I originally contacted them, so that's why I contacted JIC directly, and that's when they told me that they didn't offer a VIP set-up for the V36 cars yet. I then talked to them about using my car to design a custom VIP set-up for the V36 sedan that would have slightly lower spring rates than the standard FLT-TAR's, but higher rates than the VIP's for the V35 cars, and now we have a new product.

I'm in love with my Tanabe coilovers, the car feels like if you were driving on a railroad, it sticks to the ground and the handling is AWSOME, and it's not too stiff to make the car bounce over and tiny road depris, it feels like stock but more stiff and much better handling.
My Tanabe's should be delivered in two days.
Let them know you're a member here. they should give you a better price.

I almost ended up with the Tanabe's too... They seem like such a great compromise between ride and performace, and I don't think you can beat them for the price... but, since I was able to swing such a good deal on the JIC custom set-up, I decided to go that route instead.
Definitely hit Lou up at Amplified for the Tanabe's... He and Paul are great guys and he quoted me by far the best price I got on the Tanabe coil-overs.

Has there been any news on the development for JIC's VIP coilovers for the V36 sedans? I've seen several vendors list them on their websites but JIC said it's a custom built item only at this time.
