DIY: Clean your throttle bodies
I bought a used 2007 G35 in April 2011 and after a month , I noticed some engine hesitation and decided to use this DIY to clean my throttle bodies. Unhooked battery and didn't unhook the TB cables...moved butterfly to clean the inside and it was DIRTY!
Anyways, after cleaning got SES light and idle at 1100 for about 3 days. I did the relearning steps many times and was about to give up.
This morning, I unplugged and plugged in my battery to reset the SES light. I did the following 2 steps within 3 seconds.
9. Fully release the accelerator pedal within 3 seconds after the MIL turned ON.
10. Start engine and let it idle.
Just like that idle went down to around 650-700ish and stable. Drove around town for 10+ miles and parked my car and let idle and its solid at 650-700ish.
So if any of you are having troubles with relearning the idle, then do steps 9-10 within 3 seconds and see if that works....it did for me. I'm sure this was my solution to my problems because before, I would take my time between step 9 and 10 to say a little prayer (which didn't help me because my prayer was longer than 3 seconds).
Not sure if this tip has been posted before...but I hope this helps anyone.
As a newbie G35 owner, this DIY was of great help...thanks

i really wish we have a video of how to do this from start to finish... the photos are missing a few steps (the intakes are CAI, not OEM) and all i could find in terms of videos are on the 1st gen g35s, which dont help much.
i am cleaning my TB's tomorrow (scared s***less), and there has been one step that i was always concerned about... i dont know what the part is called, so i found it on a youtube video of some chics who are installing a CAI.
when you are looking at this video, at frame 4:29 through 4:33, they are wiggling and removing a pipe that is attached to both intakes with a pair of pliers... they also remove both intakes (that ribbed pipe attached to the TB). If i follow their method of removing the intakes to get to the throttle body, am i ok?
What does a Throttle Harness look like? is there a pic somewhere or can someone find it in this video and let me know what frame its at please?

ok i took the leap and cleaned my TB's today... couldnt get the TB off, because the hex bolts were on tightly against the plenum. i ended up removing the intake and cleaning the TB with the plate held open with a finger. it was FILTHY beyond belief, and i cleaned as much as i can. The car was off, battery was not disconnected.
after i did both, knock on wood i had 0 issues. I drove it around, only difference i noticed was that engine braking would occur while slowing down (not in DS mode) but i am sure its the ECU learning my habits. The RPM is staying around 750-800.... rock solid, with no irritating blips.
props to the OP, this DIY saved me money and got rid of the RPM issue i was having. Throttle response seems to be better too.

Sorry, I just saw your posts today. The TB harness hooks up to the TPS (throttle position sensor) circled in red here>>

The other items circled are water hoses which should not be disconnected either, as you can get air in the cooling system.

I cleaned my whole intake system today, Throttle Bodies, MAF sensor and my intake tubes (I cleaned my spare set of filters as well but I'll leave them drying and install them in a week or so.
So far no issues, but the car had one hell of a start up lol

another high rpm g
I also did the throttle body clean and got high rpms. But I went from and intake to stock intake while doing the clean. I didn't disconnect the battery, the harness or the throttle body. I just moved the butterfly with my finger and cleaned it with a clean terry cloth and throttle body cleaner. I didn't warm it up I just started doing the ecu reset and the idle learn.. I believe one of the resets needed the car warm so I did that and reset the idle. Everything seemed to work but rpms when I start are at 1500 and settle at 800 not 650 where they were before. A couple days later the engine light went out rpms are still the same. The cars idle never jumped. But it would shake ever so slightly when stopped at a light. That is why I went back to stock and cleaned the throttle body. I am trying to get the rpms back down when I start it and at idle. It also seems a little higher when driving but I can be sure. I am just a newb tryng to keep my g runnin flawless. Hate to take it to the stealership. But I don't want to waste more gas being at higher rpms. I have a 04 g coupe with under 40k
hmm, when I cleaned my TBs I didn't do any throttle reset or anything.
The RPMs were crazy on start up for the first 5 days (by that I mean the car would switch on and then it would stutter until I biped the gas just a little) and then everything goes back to normal and once the car heats up the idle goes back to where it should be.
After the first 5 days or so my car starts perfectly and idles perfectly. If you haven't given it a few days to settle try giving it 1 or 2 more days and see if anything improves. I hope this helps

But when I start the car up, it's at about 1500, then after a little warm up it calms down to the 500s.
