Stillen Intake *PICS + VIDEO*
#63
Seems to me I read where the stock intakes are fully enclosed and infinity claims 3hp at higher rpms due to the ram effect. I don't know if that is true, but I can see some benefit to the fully enclosed design of the stock setup (ie, cooler outside air). Are the Stillen intakes open on the bottom? If so, I assume you would lose any hp increase due to ram effect and more reliance on hotter under hood air. Comments?

everyone talks about intakes that are opened suck hot air!!! bro if you are moving(driving) you are always getting fresh air!!! if its 100 F and 90% humidity...it wont make a difference if your intake has a shield or not!!! its gonna suck hot air from outside!!! theres no cool air at those temps outside!!! i think shields dont increase HP at all!!! Stillen and Fujita dynoted with same HP increase which was 7HP at the wheels!!! stillen has shield and fujita doesnt.. i guess that answers the question to everyone mentioning about fujita setup sucking hot air!!! thank you

First, the underhood heat is ALWAYS hotter than the ambient outside temp. Thus, if it's 110 degrees in Arizona, it's probably 150 degrees under the hood. 110 degree air is better than 150 degree air.
Second, how were both tests conducted? Were all conditions properly adjusted to simulate real world driving conditions? Or was the intake tested w/ the hood open? Did they base their test on the first dyno pull when the car was running the coolest or did they first allow temps to stabilize before performing the dyno pull?
Here's a great article by Dinan on what they do to control the variables when doing their dyno tests:

All things being equal, having a heat shield is better than having no heat shield.

I just installed my stillen intake, I love it, it seems to pull harder and the sound is one that means business. I guess the dyno's haven't proven the power increase but dame, it feels like a beast.
I can't imagine how it would feel with the stillen exhaust! By the way where did everybody put the stillen sticker that came with tke kit?
