Pop Charger Or Intakes?
Pop Charger Or Intakes?
I was just woundering and i cant figure out what is the difference in the two. I cant decide on the nismo CAI or go for the J.Wolf Pop charger. Is there a difference in Hp gain? Is there a sound difference as well?
Either pop charger nor the Nismo are available for our cars yet. I'm also waiting for them. I've tried the Nismo for the 350Z, but the fitment of the heat shield was outta place and the tubes were a TAD bit longer than I wanted them to be.

To answer your question about the difference...
A "pop charger" is another name for a short ram intake - meaning the cone is located in the engine bay with a cone filter and a short intake tube.
A CAI traditionally drops the filter down and closer to front of the radiator or wheel well where it can take in "cold air". The G35's have a factory cold air intake, in that intakes suck air from in front of the engine. While not exactly the same as a CAI, it still keeps the air colder than a traditional intake that simply pulls air from inside the warm/hot engine bay.
Long story short, I don't think you will see a true CAI for the G35. Your best bet is to purchase the Stillen intake that utilizes the G35's factory cold air flow and boxes in the high flow filters (removing the semi-restrictive silencer piping) or puchase a JWT or Fujita pop charger that includes heat shields.
Truth of the matter the dual intake/throttle body set-up of the newer G's/350z's is very efficient. HP/TQ gains of a pop charger will be minimal, the only noticible difference will be the sound. Which is worth the money IMHO.

The pop charger is the name of a JWT product; I don't think anyone else uses that name. It's a cone filter on a velocity stack, and which is much better than just a cone filter alone.
Whether it is the best velocity stack available or would make much difference on our car is another matter. If the intake is already unrestricted relative to the engine's flow requirements, freeing it up more won't help.
A CAI draws in cold air from outside the engine bay. This usually enhances torque in the lower end more, but since it's remote, it usually requires more tubing, which can lead to more restriction than a short ram (with "short" tubing), and hence a slightly lower max output. You can put a cone and a velocity stack on a CAI.
Short ram = higher max hp
CAI = more low-mid range torque
How much on our car = ??? but based on comments here, not much
