+1, would like to confirm that too. I'm currently not running the tune, just 2 deg advanced timing because of this concern; have no reason to think Bully Dog didn't do it right, but over-lean and 98 degrees ambient don't mix well... Was thinking about getting some dyno time to check, haven't decided yet.

 

It has been about a week since I DL and installed the BD Premium tune. They took a while to get a file to me and what a difference... you can defenetly feel the increase in power. I have not been keeping track of MPG's so I could not tell you of any improvements. I am waiting for it to get cooler before I do the +2 timing.

 

I installed the Cobb AccessPort, and I feel like it helped the throttle response/lag more than anything. I only gained about 6HP/TQ with a custom dyno tune, but the car feels 100x better to drive. Sorry to go OT about the Cobb, but just thought I would share. The big difference with the Cobb is you can tune it yourself, or have it custom dyno tuned by any reputable tuner, but it does not have the ability to adjust timing yet (which is kind of lame if you ask me...).

 

Are you waiting for the weather to become cooler? Why?

 

No, he is reffering to the engine temperature. The engine needs to be within a certain operation temperature for you to be able to tune it. I believe it was something like 180-200 degrees ferenheit if im not mistaking?

 

There is less chance of detonation when it is cooler outside. I am assuming he is waiting just to make sure it is less likely to cause problems. Engine temps don't change a whole lot with the hot weather, AIT's do (air intake temp). Cooler, more dense air, is less likely to lead to detonation when you advance timing....

 

Talking about dense air, I think it's about 98% humidity here everyday. It's like breathing through a wet sock everytime you step outside. That also reminds me about when I installed a water injection system on my integra which allowed me to advance the timing. That system worked on positive boost, but I wonder if there's a way to create such a system for NA applications?

 

This install was quick and painless so easy that later that night I uninstalled and then tried to install on Armada and that was a extremely painful process and required 3 hours of tech support to resolve I was very nervous and afraid that I turned my ECU on the Armada into a useless brick but Bully Dog got it fixed. So back to the 06 G35 I installed premium tune, +2 timing, raised rev limiter to 7K and it is preforming excellent!! Pulls harder through the mid range and feels great! I am trying to get some Dyno time so I can do before and after. As far as MPG I have had my foot in it to much to look at the MPG yet but perhaps after a week or so of enjoyment of the new power I will do a tank of normal driving to see what kind of MPG I am getting.

Anyone in the Gilbert/Mesa/Tempe area interested in "trying before you buy"? I may be able to be persuaded to return mine to stock for a bit in order for others to "try before you buy" just hit me up on PM... (Since Bully's try before you buy program only works with Diesel's )

 

It's been pretty warm and humid where I am lately and my G is still running like a top with the +2 setting.

 

What octane gas do you have in Mass? With decent gas I don't think you would see any issues regardless, but hot and humid is 100+ degrees and 80% humidity. Detonation is a product of several things, but is ultimately caused by high temp. in the combustion chamber. Good gas and lower AIT's are 2 of the big factors that will allow you to increase timing without issue....

Octane is typically calculated different in the rest of the world. Big surprise, but the US has a different way of doing it. In most cases the rest of the world's 98 octane is probably closer to 93-94 octane in the US. Still good, but not as great as it would seem. I am not sure about the middle east. Do you know if they use RON or AKI octane rating? AKI is also referred to as PON sometimes. The US uses the AKI rating, and most of the world uses the RON rating.

93 octane calculated with the AKI standard is about the same as 98 octane using the RON standard.

i simply said 98 since i'm using 95 RON and saying 93 would sound like a downgrade lol. You're right though, 98 RON is around 93 AKI. I heard they have a new fuel coming out for us which is over 100 octane (not the E85).
