OEM battery finally went out

So ive had the car for 18 months now and read about all these people having battery problems and I figured i was one of the lucky ones who actually didnt. Well after changing my oil....then fully detailing my car....and 3 hours later.....with the radio on pretty low....i go to start the car and everything starts going haywire. Starter just clicks over and over....lights all over the dash are blinking, windows wont even roll up. I wash my car every weekend with the radio on and havent had any problems. We also just had our first "cool" weather of the season. I called a friend over to help jump me and we couldnt even get the car to turn over even with his car running at 3k rpms with the jumper cables. So i take it out and bring to get a new battery.

I bring it in to Autozone, and the guy goes..."is that a NIssan battery?" I said yea dont bother testing it, i know its dead. He replies back with "oh yea i know, thats why i asked....Nissan batteries are horrible". Got a new one, popped it in and im good to go now. I guess its better to have my battery go out on a Saturday rather than 7:30 in the morning when im leaving for work haha.

Yep....Duralast Gold. Every 3 year warranty battery ive had has usually gone out right before the 3 year mark so ive always got a free replacement.

Man, I hope it was just the battery. I still worry that it might be a power draw or something. but so far, the Samsclub battery (Energizer) is working good.

I dont have any reason to believe its something other than the battery. I have an aftermarket audio system that i use everyday and still havent had any problems with anything. There is always a constant draw on the battery regardless as with any vehicle. The battery was 18 months old....some people are lucky to get 8 months out of theirs. As the guy at AZ said.....Nissan batteries just suck haha.

Also....my maunal mode shifts are much much faster and the radio sounds much better. I thought it was just my imagination...but yesterday after having the new battery in......i was able to put two and two together and realize that the slower shifts and lower audio was due to a weak battery, apparantely.

18 months for a battery seems quite short to me. Don't they have warranty for 3 years or so?

Not for the stock battery haha. There are many threads on these forums as well as myg37 about premature problems with the stock battery in these cars. I think the warranty for the stock ones is only a year anyway

Mine lasted over three years. Each time you run it down to dead zero, you lose about half the battery life. Each time you run it down, even as low as ten volts, the plates start to "calcify" and eventually, they won't conduct any more. So run it down three times.... you get the idea.

Dealer would have given you a pro-rate on a new one. first year is free, so that means you would have paid for 6 months of use on the replacement.

probably just needed a charge.

My first one lasted about 9 months. The dealer gave me a free one, but that one died after about 18 months. I just drive the car and have never left the music playing or the lights on with the car off. When it did drain to nothing, it was only because the car was left undriven for a week and found dead (not what I would call normal), usually only in the winter.
