Down-Shift - 3rd to 2nd gear problem
Hi Guys,
Last night I was driving my 2007 G35 in sport mode with paddle shifters and i noticed that when i down shift from 3rd to 2nd gear it feels like something is hitting the car badly , but if I change gear from 1st to 2nd or 2nd to 3rd its all fine.
(its the same story with any rpm , i tried low rpm and high rpm)
In normal "D" mode the car is just fine it goes over all the gears without any problem...
any suggestions ? have any of you guys experience the same thing ?

Hey dude, welcome to the forum, nice to see more GCC spec Gs here.
This issue has been covered several times, if you do a search you'll find a few:
https://g35driver.com/forums/v36-eng...-question.html
https://g35driver.com/forums/v36-eng...n-problem.html
https://g35driver.com/forums/v36-eng...n-s-2-3-a.html
Personally I've found that you have to pay close attention to the rpms when changing gears, either downshifting and especially when shifting up on hard accelerations, hope this helps, and next time try the search function, it usually has everything you need

Thanks Defratos, You're from saudi right ?
I'll check the car again this afternoon to see if down shifting from 3rd to 2nd gear in different rpms will make any difference.
In the threads you suggested ppl were having problems while up shifting from 2nd to 3rd gear but in my case up shifting is all fine the only issue is down shifting to 2nd in manual mode which makes the kick

hi dude,
well I'm not from Saudi bas living in Saudi.
humm yeah most people face this problem when shifting up in hard acceleration,
Downshifting seems fine to me, but at what RPMs do u usually downshift? if it's at like 4,5,6k then it would be harsh. I usually down shift from like 4th to 3rd when I'm doing 100km and it shifts PERFECT and then again at like 40-50km downshift to 2nd. what RPMs are you shifting at"?

If I remember right, I think the hard shifts were due to the torque converter locking up under spirited driving or something. I used to have it sometimes but only when the engine/trans are still cold after leaving home in the morning. Once the trans oil warms up it goes away. I don't seem to have it any more though.

But weirdly the next morning everything went back to normal again
Maybe the 'G' healed it self ... lol

Well, in that case then it's probably the ECU learning your driving habits. The more aggressive you drive, the faster the torque converter locks up which is made that way to increase response. If you've been driving aggressively (even for a short while) you will feel the TC kinda make the car feel a bit jerky once you drive normally. If that's the case then you can just drive normally for 10 minutes at least and you'll feel the car becoming kinda softer/smoother. You'll also feel the throttle response become a bit more laggy when it does.

I just noticed today shifting from 2nd to 1st is pretty rough and hard (jurks)...downshifting from 4th to 3rd to 2nd are all fine and smooth..
upshifts are all normal as well... no problems in D. Tried downshifting from 2nd to 1st in all RPM ranges below 4k (All same).
This is new since I do downshift every once a while to dead stops and it was normal..
Would this be related to 1st gear mechanical?
I have searched previous hard shifts thread..and read all..
i do not believe changing the throttle sensitivity is the problem here..
any inputs appreciated!!

If you have the same problem as i had , i believe if you turn off the car and give it some rest it will be fixed.
since the day i had the problem till now i tried hard downshifts into 2nd gear to see if the problem is coming back and it didnt.
i dont downshift into 1st gear... i let the car do that for me as i think it'll be hard on the gearbox and might do some damage.
maybe some1 else who had the same problem while downshifting into 1st will comment on this one
anyways i hope your G heals itself like mine
