Custom exhaust on my G35x
#16
My sound clip is with HFCs. It sounded great but it definitely droned right around 65 mph. Slower or faster and the drone diminished. I sold my exhaust and installed it on another G with stock cats. It sounded very mellow with stock cats. Sound is very subjective. I'm super picky. You could always try it w/o the resonators. If it is too loud or drones too much, then add the resonators.

i'm actually the new owner of this setup, and bsowhat gave me an awesome deal on the setup.
I'm running it with stock cats. It's pretty mellow and at low speeds you can barely tell its there, but under throttle it definitely comes alive. Even with stock cats, there is *slight* droning at 55-65mph, especially when going uphill, but it's just the nature of the beast. It sounds great at WOT especially from 2.5-3.5k and above that, the sound of the engine/SRI sounds louder than the exhaust.
For $150, I couldn't be happier.

I own both a V35 coupe and V36 sedan. The VQ motors drone at totally different rpm points which is not surprising since the 2 generations of motors are very different. The VQ35DE running HFC and a dual FI exhaust drones in 5th (auto) around 1700-2000 rpm which is 45-50 mph. The VQ35HR also drones in 5th (auto) but around 60-65 mph. Thanks again theophilus. I hope my exhaust serves you well for many miles.
