This is a great mod. you can install the switch next to the VDC button.

i have no space next to my vdc! it is that, the afs and then the trunk!~ ;-(

I have a RWD with no AFS so i got space. There's also an empty button space next to the hood release although its a bit down there. Or on the center console where the seat warmer buttons go. I think there's an empty button on the US spec G's.

idk about this mod. i mean running a staggered setup has nothing to do with the AWD , as long as your running the proper size tires it shouldnt matter. and as for doing burnouts who wants to kill there tires like that and mess up the paint. i do on the other hand like saving the AWD 8 months outta the year. but again im sure this will probably screw with other sensors in the car. i mean the AWD system does more than spin 4 tires, the car was not designed for that at all. and catastrophic failure down the road has to be expected. i run staggered with no problems what so ever.

So, you bought a G35x and modified it into a RWD.
Why, so you can have a RWD G without the LSD that weighs 200lb more?

I know this was in your "disclaimer" but I just don't get it.
It's been proven in plenty of reviews that the AWD system in our car is fantastic and the car handles exceptionally on the track. Why disable it... is it just to spin your rear wheels?

The AWD doesn't engage unless it detects wheel spin anyway. Therefore the car remains RWD the rest of the time. Or so I heard.

+1 I don't really get it. If I wanted an AWD I would just buy AWD, if I wanted RWD just get RWD. Plus I would be very uncomfortable doing this if I had an X. Props to you for figuring it out as I would never have the jems to mess around like that but doesn't make sense as to why.

Guys the the OP just found a good work around the AWD system to save his drivetrain some stress and IF in fact it completely disengages the front diff and makes it a 100% RWD for the summers without any side effects, then whats wrong with it? He already agrees with you guys that "if you want RWD, get RWD"

He found something great here and shared it with the community and should be applauded for it imho.

nice find. so (here's a noob ?) what does the VDC disengage do? I thought that more or less made the car RWD? and what do you all mean "save the AWD"? Having driven Subies for the past 8 years, maybe this is lost on me...
If a vehicle is designed and manufactured for AWD, shouldn't it not have negative effects to have it engaged? That being said, if I can find some answers for this last question and wait this out till some long term effects are discovered, this is probably something I'd do.

Don't get me wrong if I had figured something like this out I would be posting it up as well. However I just don't see the function of doing so.. well besides being able tell your friends I can change my AWD to RWD in a moments notice.

i guess its good if you want to run an aggressive staggered setup on an x.

You have a good winter/summer beater and when you like to go for drifting you turn it into RWD and good to go. Once you done switch back and back to a safe AWD car.

You are right it is prooven running good and gives similar performance as the RWD. It just good to have th option to switch when needed.

Maybe you drop 40K on a nice "winter/summer" beater, but that's a bit too rich for my blood.
Just my opinion, but I say keep the X the way it is and buy a different car if you want spin the tires.
