2005 atx to 2007 atx vqde35 tranny swap (tcm reprogram)
2005 atx to 2007 atx vqde35 tranny swap (tcm reprogram)
I want to know if i put an ATX from any newer year VQDE35 into my 2005 ATX g35 will i need to have the TCM reprogramed. Hell if you put any tranny in there from any year will the TCM need to be reprogrammed? Or can i just install tranny / tcm and go? i know if i were to get a NEW valve body/ TCM that i will need it to be though.
Unfortunately it's pretty hit/miss when it comes to transmission swaps, however, the 2007 X models were only available mated to the HR motor and that will not bolt up to your DE engine without swapping bellhousings, since that TCM was designed to communicate with an entirely different ECM it's a fair bet it won't won't without programming.
The RE5R05A was bolted to pretty much every Nissan vehicle with different bellhousings, Titan, Pathfinder, Xterra, G35, 350Z, M35, FX35, M45, G37, and a couple of Kia applications. I think this is where a lot of the "TCM needs reprogrammed" issues come from, because people are pulling them from other vehicles that are NOT a matching chassis G35.
If you pulled a 2004.5 - 2006 G35 it will PROBABLY work without programming. I'm not aware of anyone doing transmission swaps from a known donor vehicle that had the correct chassis who needed the TCM reprogrammed.
You could always take the TCM from your existing vehicle and put it in the donor transmission.

I just noticed you posted in the V36 sub forum, if your vehicle is a 2007 then you will want a transmission from another X sedan 2007-2008. You could swap your existing transfer case in place of the tailshaft housing of a non-X model without any other parts besides a gasket I think.

Pretty much what cleric said. The HR trans I believe has different internals and may have a different front pump so I'm not sure about swapping 07'-08 x' bellhouse and TQ converter to a 03'-06' x. It might work but that is the one combination I haven't tried yet. If you do try it make sure the spline count is right and measure the TQ converter spacing from bellhouse after swapping. And don't try swapping pumps if the spline count is different.
