Not trying to start any problems, but I read on Bimmerforums.com about an oil burning issues with the G35's. I did a search and came up with a 54 page thread which I don't have time to read. Is this an issue with the G35's???
Did it only affect the 05-06's??? Are the 07 + G's safe from this issue???

and there was no oil consumption at all.

I bring my car for oil changes every 3-4 months, never even open the hood in between, and have not had any problems.

 

Did it only affect the '05-'06? My '05 has never used a drop of oil in 22000 miles, never even heard of this as an issue. Sounds like BS to me!

mostly confirmed to be with the 05-07 rev-up engines, which are found in the 05-06 manual sedan, and 05-07 coupe. Some regular VQ35s have an issue but its rare. I dont think there has been any issues really with the 07+ sedans. May be too early in the game but i think Nissan fixed their oil consumption problem with the VQ35HR engine. If you search and do some research you can learn alot about it.

the vq's are extremely particular with oil change intervals. if you start pushing 7, 8, 9 thousand km's between oil changes, the vq's start eating oil like crazy. we had an 04 maxima (VQ35DE)come in that haden't had an oil change in about 8 thousand km's and we drained only about 2 litres of dirty black oil out of it.(don't be afraid if you change your oil every 6 k and find that it's pretty darn dark. nissan engines tend to dirty the oil much more than other engines) so just a heads up, be religious with your maintence to prevent problems down the road.

 

I think you will find lots of engine oil burning issues in the 350z's but I have not heard of any issues with the Infiniti's. It may be because the Infiniti motors are still assembled in Japan with a little bettter quality control and attention to detail.

Just going on observation here. There are far more oil burning threads on the 350z sites than on the g35 sites.

After tearing down 350z and Infiniti vq's there are big differences in the quality and care that they are assembled with. You can just see it from how sealants are applied and how bolts are torqued. I really don't know if that correlates into a mechanical advantage with a Japan assembled motor. Maybe I'm reaching.

I used to see it with Honda's all the time. The early 90's cars assembled in Japan had much better fit and finish over the cars being built in the US and Canada.

 

Although i warm my car up by driving slowly, once its warm its usually go time!! only around 7000 thousand miles, and NO oil usage. this is run with euro spec Mobil 1 and lots of higher rpm running at times.....

 

The VQ35DE motor burning oil is not a BS flag.

Way back i had a 2003 maxima, and i had to replace my motor under warranty after 50,000kms.

THis was using AMSOIL SYnthetic SEries 2000 and filter changed every 4000kms!! thats right, the most expensive oil changed every 4000 kms!!!

The worst part, was I was not hte only one. I did a survey on maxima.org and almost 400 people replied, 15% had oil burning. I was burning up to 1.5L every 4000kms!!

I PERSONALLY KNOW 5 cars out of the 8 cars with VQ35DE motors that have oil burning issues:

2003 Infiniti G35 Coupe wiht 85,000kms not hard drivin
Coworker with 2005 Altima SE 3.5L Auto with 100,000kms not hard driven
My buddy with a 2003 Maxima SE 3.5L 6speed with 140,000kms (engine replaced)
My 2003 Maxima SE 3.5L 6 speed replaced by Nissan Canada
My ex-bosses 2002 Pathfinder VQ35DE replaced after 20,000kms

This isnt a joke. It sucks ***. I hope my VQ35HR doesnt do this. I am currently watching my dads 2003 VK45DE, as this motor is also known to burn massive oil as well.. So far nothing has happened yet, but i wouldnt be surprised.

I am not very impressed with NIssan quality, especially after the QR25DE, VQ35DE and VK45DE motors with reported oil burning issues. It usually starts with rattling noises after 1800 to 2200 RPMS!!

The wrost part was my nissan dealer didnt believe me. Well i dropped by when i bought my 300C and low and behold, he had a 2004 and 2003 maxima in with VQ35DE engine replacements approved by Nissan Canada!!

 

I run about 100 track miles in 3rd & 4th gear mostly above 6500 rpm, run autocross in 2nd gear bouncing off the rev limiter, and I've seen zero oil loss in my engine. I'm keeping to the maintenance schedule. 2007 G35S 5AT.
