aftermarket amp with stock bose hu

I was wondering if anyone has hooked up an aftermarket amp and sub....if so are you using a high low converter. Correct me if im wrong bose systems run at a low frequency already, so what wire would you tap into to get a signal??

Just put a sub in mine and we used a Line output converter (LOC) to convert the signal and a Line driver to boost it.

the line driver mad a huge difference!!!

Bare with me if you will....

Where did you get the signal? Obviously the sub, but where did you tap in, and what color was the wires? What did you use as a remote turn on for your amp?

What line driver did you use?

Thanks

currently im using a line output converter (loc) to convert the signal also, but haven't tried using a line driver to boost the signal. Currently just using the LOC the amp is put all the way to max gain and its not strong enough to push a 10" kicker that im using to test......hopefully by adding the line driver it will boost the signal of the amp strong enough to push my L7 kicker. BTW which line driver did you use??

We grabbed the signal from the wires going to the sub in the rear deck. I don't remember what color they are...let me know if you need me to & i can get in there one day & look at it. as for the remote turn on...we got that from the amp for the rear speaker.

The line driver i am using it the Memphis 16-VBF1. it was around $85. It has a little indicator that shows how many volts the signal you are using has and we were barely getting one volt. the line driver boost that to up to 9 volts. you can adjust how much just like you adjust the gain on your amp.

I was really trying to buy a used '07 WITHOUT the premium package, as I've got all the fixin's to put in a kick-a$$ stereo, but I'm having trouble finding the car I'm looking for. All that being said, I have an amp, front comps and rear sub ready to go.

Could I simply take out the Bose amp and plug the RCA's from the head unit into the new amp and complete my install without further complication? i had read somewhere that the HU on the Bose system messes with the EQ (which the stock HU suposedly does not do) requiring the use of a JL Cleansweep or Rockford 360* to undo this pesky little matter.

If anyone can offer advice, I'm all ears!

Thanks

yes...you will need something to convert the signal coming from the Bose head unit. i looked into doing this myself (got really expensive!).

I was looking at the Alpine PXE-H650...
http://www.alpine-usa.com/US-en/prod...&lang=en&tab=D

it should do everything you need to replace all your interior speakers and add a sub or two.

Ouch. A simple LOC costs me $30. The "privelege" of getting the Blose system just makes it that much more expensive to get my sound system of choice put in the car.

definietly!!! if you wanted to give up the head unit...you could probably do alot more with the same amount of money.

I decided to keep the Bose stuff and add a sub. it sounds good enough for me. I like how everything in the premium package is integrated & don't want to spend a fortune replacing it all with after market stuff. Yeah...the end result would be better...but right now it is not enough to make me want to shell out the $$$ for it.

you would not need that for just a sub. all you need for a sub is a Line output converter (LOC) to convert the signal and a Line driver to boost it.

you would only need the line level converter if you were going to change the interior speakers.

this is all assuming you have the Bose system
