3000 miles on new car

Hi everybody,
I've been lurking around for awhile but never posted, so I'll introduce myself and my car.

Dan,
Minden, NV
08 g35 journey, premium, perf wheel package, liquid platinum/wheat.

I bought the car for my wife, who has been driving it for most of its 2.5 months and 3k miles. Our prior car was an 2003 toyota camry (loaded to the hllt), so we're obviously pleased with the upgrade.
I've found 3 problems thus far that aren't major, but want to get some feedback on them before I take it to the dealer 140 miles away.
#1: Steering column drops slightly before it locks into place everytime the adjustable memory is first activated. I've done a search and seen that several have had this problem. I see that in some cases getting it fixed has often resulted in more problems. Whats the concensus on this?

#2: Sunroof wind noise. The sunroof is extremely noisy when fully open. It has the wind deflector, but seems to be quieter without. In my opionion the sunroof is useless at speeds above 30 mph.

#3: The rocker panel and lower door in front of the rear tires have major rock chips. Infiniti put the plastic clear bra material in front of the rear wheel, and this takes alot of the rock chips as mine has definetly got impact marks on it, but the lower part of the rear door above this clear bra is marred up as well. This is a strange area for debris as it is in front of the tire. If somebody could check out their car and report back, as I'll make it known to Infiniti, but not sure what they'll do about it.

Other than these issues, we love the car. We spent a fair amount of time in the BMW, and MBZ (my camry had more stuff than the bmw). We ALMOST bought the IS350 (which is a beautiful car by the way, it was a tossup) and the last car we looked at was the G of which we drove home.
No regrets.
DK

Congrats on your new purchase.

As far as your comments/questions, I have about 3,000 miles on mine as well.

#1 - My steering wheel drops slightly as well. I have got use to it and don't feel its a big of enough issue to mess with it.

#2 - I feel the same. The wind noise from an open sunroof is very loud on the highway. It is definitely louder than my "04 coupe. I am not sure there is anything that can be done, its just the design of the roof itself. The profile of the roof line can also have some effect on this.

#3 - As I stated, I have about the same amount of miles as you, but I don't have the chipping you describe.

Jim

I have all of your problems as described - 1500 miles on mine (even the same exact car - did you get wood trim and navi?)

What I noticed is on the lHS the door fit and finish is flush with the body panel, no rock chips.

On the LHS, the body panel stands proud of the door, and is getting pelted by rocks. I have 6 chips in 3 weeks and all are rusted already. I will defintitely be back to the dealer with this issue.

The steering is annoying because it moves/locks in every time while i'm backing down my driveway.

The sunroof is not useable.

Strange, I got about 15k on mine and I have none of these issues.

Best of luck getting them resolved.

3- i have the chips you describe. i don't think they are from rocks, but i'm not for sure what they are from, mine is on the rocker panel middle way of the front door. no idea what happened, i think the passenger side door has it too. maybe from shoes?

I was thinking they might be from the touchless car wash.
It has a wheel blaster that operates at that level.
Keep the responses coming.

I noticed the same thing right away when I bought my 07 back in Feb 07. It can be improved by reaching up and pulling down the metal deflector that goes up when the sunroof is opened. I also found that sunroof noise almost completely goes away at 110mph+, but I don't recommend driving that fast all the time.

My solution was to tint the sunroof with 20% when I had the rest of the windows tinted. It was only another $20 or so more. Now I leave the cover open all the time and roof closed and the California sun is not too hot through that tint.

I have all three problems as well. The only one that bothers me is the rock chips on the panel next to the rear doors. Infiniti has no to know about this or else there would be no clear sticker there. Should I bring it up to the dealer now (900 miles) or at the next service?
