Angry What is the Wheel HP of our cars?

Hi guys, ok I've just been told that a 2008 G35J produces around 250whp and 220wtq now is this true?

If so then my 1.8T Audi will kick it's *** any day!!!

All factory HP #s are based on crank HP, the WHP of any other car would be proportional. 250 does sound a bit low though...maybe more like 280ish

Depends on what # you want to use for drive train loss for your particular trans, although 250ish sounds about right for an AT.

Well yeah I would think 280whp sounds more accurate and as for torque 220 is just too low, wouldn't it be closer to 250tq?

What is everyone's view, I want to hear the different views people have on a standard 2008 G35J AT.

It's generally accepted that an AT sees a drivetrain loss of anywhere from 15-20%, depending on who you ask, where an MT sees 10-15%.

If you do the math with a conservative 15% loss for the AT, you are no where near 280 (which equates to roughly an 8.5% loss=impossible).

I think its more to to 265-270whp
Cuz the day i got my reflash the guy said i gained over 30whp...so it might be around that area.
The torque sounds right at 220tq.

humm ok 270 sounds more about right, still unsure about the Torque figures though. So what did you do to get it to 310whp? looks like you've installed CAI, Headers (although it says off which confuses me) and that gave you +30whp!!!

aside from all the climate conditions and variables from car to car, dyno's themselves also read differently.

u cant just throw out random whp/wtq figures without saying what kind of dyno was used

Your second comment re the A4 is incorrect tho. You have to take into account weight, gearing, etc.

Agreed, Climate conditions will defiantly affect the car's performance, and you're right dyno's are notorious for giving weird figures, they all change from one dyno to the next. Which is why I'm asking, I mean does anyone have a defensive answer as to what whp and actual wheel torque will be? a figure most people will agree to or even a figure that Infiniti will agree to?

My Audi is an S3 and not an A4 lol. it is the old S3 (2002) so 1.8 Liter, K04 turbo, 4 cylinder 5 valve = 20valve engine block. Stock it was 225hp (not whp) after remapping i've taken it to 255hp (not whp) and 280tq (not whp)

standard the car will do 0-60mhp in 6.5-6.9 after remap its closer to 5.9. Now my confusion is how can a car that

- Weights more, the G35 is approx 1,600kg whereas the S3 is 1,450kg
- G35 has nearly the same HP and much less torque than the S3
- G35 is RWD whereas the S3 is quattro

now with all the above how in the world does a G35 do 0-60 in 5.9? when I can just about get my S3 to that figure??? or was the 5.9 figure also at crank? lol

Don't get me wrong, the G feels fast, and I like it, but I expected it to be producing a bit more whp and torque than what most people have told me , in a straight line race against the S3 yeah the G will win but only after 70mph and over, and on take off the G will eat the S3 dust, so is the 0-60 time of 5.9 also wrong?

I guess I gotta go time myself and see what I can do

actually thinking about it, I've raced my cousin who had a 2007 Nissan 350Z and I left him for dead at the lights, so it just gives me more of an excuse to rant

ok the g35 does not do 0-60 in 5.9 it ranges from 5.2-5.4 for autos and 5-5.2 for MT's in many tests that reviewers have done so the car IS fast!

And the new G37 sedan does 0-60 in 5sec flat 7speed auto!

The results will be all over the place if one tries to get an absolute number. I got about 18% drivetrain loss on my 5AT.

My baseline before and after FI exhaust came up with about 243 WHp peak stock.

I believe this is pretty close because my AFTER plot closely matches the results GTM got on their dyno prior to adding TT.

Assuming those numbers were somehow correct, and the car was an AT, Nissan would have had to grossly underrate the motor. To produce that 270ish WHP figure would mean that the motor would have to produce in the area of 330WHP (assuming a 18% loss for an AT), which is most likely impossible.

Terry's HP figures/dyno graph are most likely the "norm" for an AT.
