Are metallic tints ok to use on the G?

I've had metallics on my old cars, most of which had diversity antenna's on the rear window. I've also used my cellphone and portable GPS in them without problems. Would it be safe to say the same for the G with the nav/bluetooth/satellite?

I found a couple of old posts, but it seems most people have ceramics installed here.

Thanks.

Metallic will mess up your radio reception, especially if you listen to AM bands.

XM is unaffected.

Thanks, guys. That bad on the G, huh? It shouldn't affect Nav either, right? (since the antenna is on the roof).

G35Swagger, odd that you say that, the Ceramics i was looking at (Formula One) looked similar, even though the Ceramics were rated lower (18% ceramics vs. 20% for metallics).

Antenna is inside the dash (at least on the earlier sedans).

I would stay away from metallics. Ceramic is by far the best for performance but very pricy.

Metallic will be fine and won't cause any issues contrary to what people would have you believe. Metallics look better, but as others have mentioned Ceramic really keeps the heat out much, much better.

I have metallic solarguard and have no reception problems, with Nav, fm, am, or xm.

Someone else might know better but I thought the antenna is the fin on top of the car?

IIRC, the antenna mounted on the roof is for navigation/XM, the AM/FM reception comes from the antenna built into the rear windshield

Perhaps folks who think they're using metallic are actually use something like 3M CS, which is extremely popular, which is non-metallic, but dyed, so doesn't interfere

I have metallic. It definitely messed up my radio reception for the few stations that are farther away.

For stations with a strong signal, it didn't make a difference. Unfortunately, my favorite stations are the two that don't come in well now.

Get the good stuff (ceramic) and you won't have to worry about it.
