May move to Hawaii
May move to Hawaii
May take a job in Hawaii, but I have a few questions.
1. How much will it cost to move my car there?
2. Should I just sell it and get a practical car, due to ocean water corrision?
3. What is the average cost to rent a okay/safe place temporarily? Job will be in Honolulu.
I guess that's it for now..

Re: May move to Hawaii
I have friends who moved their car up to the mainland in those freights for about $600 so I would assume its the same the opposite way.
Don't worry about ocean water corrosion. I have never had a problem with that. If you live in Honolulu you will have tradewinds that go out to sea so less likelihood of salty air. There are many G35 owners here so I'm sure you will be glad you brought your car.
Cost will depend on the type of apt/condo you want to rent. Studio, 1 bedroom, 2 bedrm, etc... I'm renting a 2 bedroom 2 bath place that is pretty ideal for about $1350 a month, but I got lucky. Decent studio or one bedroom is going to run between $850 to $1400. Im assuming covered, secure parking is a must because it was for me.

Thxs for the info Jayspr5. I'm looking to rent short term.. Maybe a month or two until I can buy a new place.
Nismo it's not definate..=P Hawaii is no big deal.. I like the people there mostly, and the girls. They are pretty. I'm affraid I will get island fever though.
Few more questions. If I do or get a final offer for this job. When and if i ship my car over do they Inspect the car? Do i have to be at a certain spec? Only mods i did to my car is lower it, the rims and air filter.

On the island of Oahu, they have a recon sticker that you need to apply for if you modify your car. There's a local forum w/ more info on the matter:
<a href=http://www.forumshawaii.net/phpBB2/viewforum.php?f=7> ForumsHawaii(Recon Advice)</a>
Basically, any modifactions you do to your car require a recon sticker. Changing rims, lowering the car, etc. Only applies to the island of Oahu tho, and there's a bunch of people working on having the entire process revamped.

Aloha Wreck!
Well, youd have to factor in quite a bit to move to Hawaii. Being that we probably have a high cost of living, you might want to think about keeping that car. Shipping it down here usually runs anywhere from $600-$2000, depending on shippers. Youd end up trying to buy a new or used car for a lot more here than you would on the mainland.
Also, housing here runs pretty steep. Id definitely look into renting for a few months. The market for new homes is, from what Ive heard, booming because of low term interest, although the price of homes are high. I live in a very quiet neighborhood, away from heavy traffic on Kam Hwy, and rent here runs between $1000-1400, depending on the areas.
Please, let me know if you need more help with this. I cant help out as much, but we can look into for you. Aloha!!

Thxs for the info chrr.
Man, what concerns me the most about the Recon is getting a notirized note where I bought my rims. I got them used, so am I suppose to go to the seller and we sign a note?

I'm not totally up to speed on the recon requirement, though I did skim that notorized note part. If I were in your position, I'd just slap the stock rims on and get your recon for the rest of your mods. Then once you got the sticker, put your other rims back. It may be a little dishonest, but c'mon...the whole recon process is full of cr@p anyway...

Re: May move to Hawaii
Technically you don't need a recon for your rims if it is only 1.5 inches wider and 1 inch higher than what it says in your door jam sticker. As for the drop you are going to need to get a recon. To get recon for drop thought, you're going to need to get an allignment done first.
Re: May move to Hawaii
Damm I don't meet those requirements. Also I'm not sure my fronts are 1 degree's within spec. I may have to raise my car or just give it to my sister and talk her SUV there.
Still not sure if i'm comming down or not. I may have scared the Supervisor when he asked how much I get payed in California.
I think cost of living hawaii is the same or higher than california, but the salaries their are lower?

Re: May move to Hawaii
im not sure if im correct...but i think regarding exhaust and rims you can go to any car place and ask them for an afadavit(sp) but they are probably going to charge you...and if you change your rims back to stock for the recon and change em back to anything bigger than the 1.5in difference you can and probably will be pulled over and your recon will be revoked....but hopefully cops are nicer to the g35 gang huh?
btw...if you have any questions about recon or what not just jump on forumshawaii.com and post up a question...there are some very knowledgeble people on there as well as some very nice officers

I have to agree with local808. I went to Eurosport to get that affidavit done, which was free of charge because I bought springs from them. Most places charge a small fee.
Once that affidavit is in hand, you need to do a wheel alignment within 30 days of attaining a reconstruction sticker. You dont need a receipt for wheels. Also, a recon sticker is only needed if any OEM part is replaced with an aftermarket part. For the wheels, you need a sticker for sizes over 2".

I haven't had the chance to post there yet.. My work has blocked off that site. I'll try to read as much as I can at home if I have time before posting there.
If i do got there (65-70% possiblity now that I may get the job, had second interview), how much is a bucket of zippy's chili. Nah j/k, I have some serious thinking to do about raising the car back up a bit (don't remember if my front's are withing 1 degree of spec, removing my tint (I think it's at 32 percent all around), and that's about it I guess.

Re: May move to Hawaii
your tint would probably pass....its supposed to be 35% w -/+6% margin...also good idea in raising your car since with all the stupid pot holes and road construction you might end up losing your front end if its too low.....but good luck with your interviews
